Re: AP infinity plus one - New AP Statement
[ QUOTE ]
C'mon guys. There is no valid reason to purge the data that quickly. [/ QUOTE ] Is there a valid reason for a poker site to EVER purge a hand history? RC |

Yeah, "sillyness" describes it perfectly. C'mon guys. There is no valid reason to purge the data that quickly. I don't understand all this benefit of the doubt that we're giving AP. They have brazenly lied to us all along; they are still brazenly lying to us. They don't deserve one iota of benefit of the doubt whatsoever. [/ QUOTE ] I wouldn't call this giving them the benefit of the doubt -- merely that the story from AP regarding the HH from seif-gate matches the story I got from them regarding a HH in the past. I'd tend to believe the story since it matches my prior experience with AP. Jeff |

Re: AP infinity plus one - New AP Statement
If a "high profile" individual is spearheading a massive cheating ring it makes perfect sense that the company does not retain an adequate hand history database.
"Hey boss, we're running thin on space for hand histories. Should I contact our hardware supplier and order more hard drives?" "Uhh yeah, go ahead. Wait, WHAT? No! Just delete the data. Our accountants tell me we don't have room in the budget for unexpected hardware expenditures. Just nuke it." "Oh, okay." (hangs up phone) "BWAAAAAAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHHAHAAA!!!!" |

Re: AP infinity plus one - New AP Statement
Not to defend AP or Seif but I just did a completely unscientific and random request from PS for HH's for 9/2005 and 9/2006 for some SNGs in my PT DB.
9/2005 = nada 9/2006 = nada This is not to say that the HH's are not archived somewhere but they weren't instantaneously available. |

Jeff [/ QUOTE ] Yeah, I wasn't so much saying that we shouldn't believe the story, but rather highlighting the ridiculousness of their policy of storing master DB's on $800 Dell laptops. It's not a legitimate policy to have. They were never legitimate, and they're making it pretty clear that they never will be. |

Re: AP infinity plus one - New AP Statement
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] I wonder why it took players of a poker FORUM, as oopsed to the "regulators" of the industy/site to pick up on the fact that there was blatent and extreamly obvious cheating going on? Isn't the kawannee gaming commission supposed to be monitering this kind of thing? This is a really big hit for the industry in my opinoin. If the people who are supposed to be monitering the industry (poker site/gaming commission) and preventing cheating are not doing their job, whos to say this is not going on elsewhere? And by people who are not as blatent and dumb as to be caught in the mannor that these people were? [/ QUOTE ] In Nevada casinos pay huge sums to the state in the form of taxes, so the state can afford to have a lot of investigators. The KGC gets only $10,000 per year from each gambling opearator, so they can't really monitor at each poker site thousands of players, day in and day out, for possible signs of cheating. As a practical matter, they must rely on reports of cheating, and they have a form for that mentioned on their website. They would have to charge hundreds of thousands of dollars per year for each gambling outfit to be able to conduct the kind of investigations you want them to conduct. And then they would have zero permittees, since none would pay that much for the right to run their servers out of that indian reservation. [/ QUOTE ] I'm sorry but I've been wondering this for awhile and I just had to ask. Do you live in Kahnawake? [/ QUOTE ] No. I live in the USA a very long way from this reservation. I have a major client who in a small way is like Mr Norton, a former ironworker who became a businessman, so I guess I can easily picture Norton as a good guy, so when he or his tribesmen are attacked for no good reason I guess I want to present the other side. [/ QUOTE ] Your saying they don't actually do much in the way of regulation. So what exactly is the point of the gaming commission? Just to make the sites look and appear to be "legit"? Giving people a false sence of security when in fact they could actually eliminate the gaming commission and no one would really even notice. [/ QUOTE ] My guess is that the tribe wants to make money selling access to the huge internet spine running under their reservation, and many who want to gain that access are gambling firms who for technical communications reasons want a position physically near the USA market. But the legal status of the Tribe hosting gambling sites is uncertain, and the Tribe is worried that the Canadians might try to stop their lease of space to these gambling firms. To reduce the chances that the Canadians will want to shut them down, OR that the Canadians will have an excuse to do that which is politically palatable among the great many Canadian voters sympathetic to native rights, the tribe has decided that they should try to block crooked outfits from using their servers. Now that's just a guess on my part. But were I the Tribe I would want to try to avoid the Canadians having some excuse to come in and shut down their gravy train. So the Tribe has an interest in assuring honest gaming. |

On your thinking, if AP claimed that the sun will rise tomorrow, that would be reason to doubt it. Obviously this is an extreme metaphor [/ QUOTE ] analogy? |
