Should the Yanks trade for Putz, Paps and K-Rod also? it doesn't matter if it's a sound strategy, it's not happening.

Re: ***yankees official offseason thread*****
Okay to much crap to quote one person and respond
Mariano has implied that he wants his last season to be 2009, talking about how he just wants to pitch in the new yankee stadium before he retires his "stuff" is definately on the decline, and he's implied (not recently but in years past) that he doesn't want to keep pitching if he's not a great closer Also don't bunch me in with the guys talking about tom gordon and farnsworth... i understand nathan is sick, hence i want him to replace mariano I can't think of something to compare it to, but the yankees can/should offer him more money than anybody...and as long as they promise him the closer role in 2010 it would probably be the best oppurtunity for him |

[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] It's hard to believe the Twins won't trade Santana even if it's just a trade deadline deal. If Santana is traded before the 2008 season, then it will definitely come with a 4-7 year extension. If it happens mid-season, it's not as clear. I'm sure the Twins would want the team to sign Santana to the extension. That would help them get a better deal. [/ QUOTE ] why would santana agree to this? he gets much better money in the offseason as a FA. [/ QUOTE ] Obviously, Santana isn't going to sign a deal for less than maket value. Plenty of player sign long term deals without actually becoming free agents. If Santana gets a good deal, why wouldn't he do it? [/ QUOTE ] May depend upon his agent. Boras always wants to go the free agent route because he believes auction fever leads to max contracts. And I believe he is right. Santana won't sign any deal unless he's traded to a team he wants to go to. And hes not going to do it to help out the twins, he might do it to get traded into a pennant race with his favorite team. But he doesnt need to sign to reduce his injury risk, he could probably buy insurance for his last half season at reasonable rates. Given rising revenues, 7/$175M might not be enough to land Santana. |
