Re: Should the Pats be running up the score on everybody in garbage ti
[ QUOTE ]
Intentionally injuring another player is the most classless, douchy, disrespectful thing in all of sports. [/ QUOTE ] Yeah, and Shawn Springs spits on people. Nothing to say a classless idiot can't get pissed about running up the score and stomp on Brady's hand. It's not a matter of running up the score or retaliating being classy, it's about risk reward, and that's why I honestly hope this backfires on Belichick. Justice, baby. |

[ QUOTE ] yes. [censored] you NFL and everyone who questioned what we've accomplished this decade. if you don't like it, then don't get blown out. it's not our responsibility to keep the games close. [/ QUOTE ] Thats fine, but what do you do if Brady, one of the receivers or someone on the O-line gets lit up when they went for it on 4th and 2 with a double digit lead in the final minutes, ending that player's season? [/ QUOTE ] The person delivering the late hit should be suspended in this situation. |

Re: Should the Pats be running up the score on everybody in garbage ti
On one hand, risking starters isn't a great idea. On the other hand, this Patriot team could go down as one of the best NFL teams in history, and the allure of being part of a team that could be remembered like that is hard to pass up. To some extent I think there is a value in that in and of itself.
All I know is that I hope they leave them in late and through all the regular season games, cause I have Moss and Welker on my fantasy team. |

Re: Should the Pats be running up the score on everybody in garbage ti
[ QUOTE ]
As for why Belichick does this...I don't think it's because he's worried about some miraculous comeback that's never happened in the history of the NFL, but more likely because he is just on a mission to show the entire NFL up; the "F-U!" factor as talked about by Bill Simmons, etc. [/ QUOTE ] Maybe the F-U is a part of it, but I would think its more about using every opportunity to make his team better. Making sure his players are focused during the whole game regardless of the score, situation or opponent could mean fewer missed assignments in the 4th Q of next weeks game against the Colts. |

The point isn't that the dirty player gets punished, the point is all the gloating Pats fans who get punished. And man will they get flamed. FWIW I love watching them run up the score and I don't think there is anything wrong with it. But I'm not a Pats fan and I don't really care if Brady gets injured and they miss their chance to go perfect and win the SB. I just like watching 38/39, 395 yds, 4 TD games. |

[ QUOTE ]
No one cares if a team went 16-0 beating teams 50-10 or if they beat teams 14-13... everyone will be saying "OMFG AN UNDEFEATED TEAM!@@!" [/ QUOTE ] So not true. The '72 Dolphins are not widely recognized as the best team ever, since other teams were more dominant and had larger MOV. The '72 Fins were +214 points, or about 15.2/game. The '85 Bears were +258 or about 16.1/game. The Bears also blew out all three teams in the playoffs (21-0, 24-0, 46-10) while the Fins won three relatively close games (20-14, 21-17, 14-7). Added together, the '85 Bears are generally considered to be better than the '72 Fins even though the Bears were 'only' 15-1. So far, the Pats are already an absurd +204 points, or 25.5/game. |
