As I post this I see the Rangers just resigned Shanahan. I can't find any terms. Probably 1 year.

Shanny re-signed. 1 year, 2.5m with 1.5-2.5m in easy bonuses. Hmmm... bonuses count against the cap, don't they?

According to nyrangers.com, veteren players are allowed to receive bonus up to 7.5% over the cap.

Lundqvist signs for 1 year 2.5 mil. Looks like they're just trying to get to next year when they can lock him up when they have more cap space. Lundqvist is a good guy for taking it and avoiding arbitration because he probably could have gotten 3/4-1 mil more.

Lundqvist will be an UFA next year... he could get in the $5-$6 mil a year range. The 1 year deal for Lundqvist should work out well for him.

APXG -

Prucha has run hot in his first two seasons with regard to his shooting percentage - and I don't think his skills mean he will get better. Then add in the fact that he has no size and no other real skills - and he's just not that good a player. He'll be a fringe 2nd line NHLer/fringe waiver player for his career IMO - like Mariusz Czerkawski or Donald Audette.

I predict that Vanek will have 250 more goals than Prucha by the end of their careers.

[/ QUOTE ]

Agreed on the comparison to Audette, Czerkawski - but I would definitely give up a 1st round pick for them going into their prime, and would also gladly offer them 2.5mil per in a short term deal.

As for the 250 number, I think you are assuming Vanek to be a lock for 500. I disagree with that - much like Prucha, he also has a lot of downside. But don't get me wrong - they aren't in nearly the same class nor would I ever pay them similarly.

The 4.25 is a very very good deal for the Rangers. They give an extra season for Lundqvist to flop, and if he doesn't, I doubt he'd want to leave NY if he gets offered the fair Luongo / Giguere type deal, with maybe 1 mil added. Lundqvist takes a risk b.c. he could've used his huge leverage to secure multiyear this year and not worry about if next season happens to fizzle.
