I think that was true post 9/11 but I wonder if we have hit post post 9/11 where the older issues will now surface again.

yes thinking about this more I there is considerable regret among many for much of the post 9/11 stuff, specifically, how the feelings of being vulnerable and patriotism were used leading up to going to war with Iraq and even re-electing Bush.

If Rudy runs as the 9/11 candidate, i think it would really backfire on him.

Once the details of his personal life come out in the mainstream (boinking the mistress in the mayor's mansion while still married), I think it's over for him though.

[/ QUOTE ]

i thought this personal life stuff has nothing to do with the presidency?

If he were running as a moderate Dem rudy would be a slam dunk. But when your running for a party that really gets hot and wet about core social issues...gays,abortion,guns etc
Putting up a pres nominee who thinks the opposite of 50-75% of your core supporters will kill you in turnout

Hope this bump is ok.

One thing I was thinking about today. What ever happened to Frist and Santorum? Both are hardcore conservatives appealing to the base. Santorum was mentioned after he got beaten here in Pennsylvania and I thought Frist didn't run for reelection so he would be able to get a campaign going and that the UIGEA was his play at the conservatives for the primary.

Any chance these two guys run? I very strongly dislike both of them, but wouldn't mind them being nominated because they would IMO have little chance in the generals. I should probably update my beliefs though as I thought the same thing the last presidential election about Bush.

Santorum i think is a top VP nominee. I could see a Giuliani/Santorum Ticket to balance out Giuliani's leanings.

Great bump timing... i was thinking about this today.

There this article in Australia's greatest newspaper: http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/story/0,20867,21304839-2703,00.html

At intrade, they have moved McCain to 29.6% chance of winning nomination, and Giuliani to 31%.

This is a massive leap for Giuliani, and a massive fall for McCain.

Any commentary on this?

Also, does anyone have any connections to the Giuliani campaign? I currently work for a Member of the Australian House of Reps and am keen to chat about this...

Santorum's prospects died with his Senate seat.

Frist's died with Republican control of the Senate.

New York Magazine just wrote a good article on Guiliani and his chances:

I agree with this.

Santorum as a VP candidate is certainly possible, but I think it would be more likely if he was partnered w/McCain. A New York/Pennsylvania ticket does not seem like a winning combination.
