[ QUOTE ] Enormously fat women - i.e. 280 pounds plus - who wear sleeveless tops DESPITE NOT REALISING THEIR FAT ARMS ARE DISGUSTING. [/ QUOTE ] if this is serious, i think it's just mean and a little sad. i think these typically mean "awesome and near godly" to me: ... 4. drivers that straddle two merging lanes to not let people behind them pass. ... 3. bad tippers [/ QUOTE ] [censored] that. I think false gratitude is more trashy tbh. Give me a good reason to tip someone who merely did what they are paid to do by their boss by bringing me my food or drink. |

I think people deserve a tip for good service, but the operative word is good. I don't want to have to go begging for a refill or some napkins, or face a sullen or too cool for school presence, etc. Bad service is really, really common, and doesn't deserve a tip at all.

I think people deserve a tip for good service [/ QUOTE ] I don't think it deserves a tip atall except when I get absolutely exceptional service. [ QUOTE ] Bad service is really, really common, and doesn't deserve a tip at all. [/ QUOTE ] What is the common reaction if you don't tip when someone gives you bad service? I often find myself tipping just to avoid making a scene as the sole reason. |

i agree with this. but, for some reason, i over tip. and always give 20 percent, even for shady service... i guess i relate due to my many years shagging cars, cutting fish in a market, being a doorman, and so on during my college years.
wish i had the stones to stiff on bad service once in a while. only if they do something terrible, will i stiff em. |

When that happens, I'm more involved in trying to control my disappointment or not be pissed off. I figure the less we each see of each other, the better. |

I don't think it deserves a tip atall except when I get absolutely exceptional service. [/ QUOTE ] It's different in the US. There is nothing built into the bill to pay for service and the wait staff typically makes far less than minimum wage from their paycheck ($2.13/hr is common in most states). Tipping is not something "extra" for great service. It's part of the cost of eating out, but how much is left to your discretion. |

I agree. It's one of those things we kind of f*cked up on.

Fair enough then but that is such a retarded system. [/ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] I agree. It's one of those things we kind of f*cked up on. [/ QUOTE ] I think this is one of the things American industry does especially well. Performance based pay is good for everyone. Customers get better service (yes, much better than in Europe) and waiters and waitresses get constant constructive criticism or reinforcement. Having worked in this industry during high school/college I loved the tipping system. Maybe it's my naive desire for "fairness" that I enjoy seeing better servers get paid more than worse servers. |
