Insurance is such a silly thing in tournament play.

In a ring game, I can almost see it. Lord knows if I had my whole bankroll all in as a favorite I might be tempted to take a slight loss in expectation to reduce variance.

But, the insurance calculations are easy. Chips=Dollars. In a tourney you have to figure things like what chip equity means in $ and what your tourney life is worth. I doubt Ivey and Hellmuth were breaking out the ICM calculations for the insurance bets. And they shouldn't have been either, as Hellmuth is undoubtedly worth more than any chip equity to dollar equity model might indicate. Still, I suspect Hellmuth got the bad end of things.

From the audio coverage, Shak just seems like textbook scared amateur. Big hand = push, doesn't matter position or opponent or previous action. I am really surprised Phil called with his AT there. I just can't imagine she'd be making an open-shove flop move.

Reminds me of that doctor guy from the WPT shooting stars that Gus Hansen was on, the one Danny Nguyen superluckboxed. There was also another guy at a different WPT final table, it had Harman and Negreanu, and he just open-shoved QQ for a pretty decent stack UTG. It's "outdraw/flopplayphobia"

The table is what, 25, 30 BBs deep? This is probably suboptimal, but it's probably not terrible, either.

I shut the audio coverage down at the break and now I have opened it back up. However, I am not getting any sound but it seems to be streaming. Anybody have similar problems?

Beth was by far the weakest player at the table, but she hasn't made donkey moves so far (save the AQo re-re-push all-in after two EP pushes)...she's just been fortunate to have picked up very strong hands when opponents have had above avg but second-best hands. Frankly, her winning this thing will be good for the poker. p.s. i don't know if TV will show this, but her shirt was ridonculous.
Fineman and Dustin were both very strong, and nice guys to boot. No real read on Song, because he never spoke and has been shortstacked much of the time...Pillar seems decent and apparently plays a ton online (stars supernova), but quite spewish...probably the strongest of the remaining 3 though.

I agree with that, I was more trying to make the point of Phil's call being pretty questionable in my mind vs such an obvious archetype of opponent. It's an interesting hand to try to analyze.
