[ QUOTE ] I would have liked to see him more offensive, but that's just not his style. [/ QUOTE ] Yeah, he only landed almost twice as many punches as Oscar did. [/ QUOTE ] My point was that he had another ho-hum semi dominating performance. Besides him trying to pull off the bad guy act, the public doesn't care about him and his technically precise, yet overly defensive style. |

[/ QUOTE ] OK, what future fight can match this? If de la Hoya AND Mayweather are done fighting, I have almost zero interest in boxing as a whole. While on the topic, props to Max Kellerman for standing up for MMA against another pot shot from Jim Lampley. |

Re: The last big fight De La Hoya - Mayweather
Shocked that people actually thought De la Hoya won this fight. I had PBF by at least 4 rounds. All the De la Hoya supporters in the room with me left in disgust after the final bell, assuming a big unanimous victory for PBF.
I think what people have to understand the most is that PBF was giving a lot of size and power away to De la Hoya in this fight. People want to see an all-out offensive battle, but that would have been playing to Oscar's strengths, and Mayweather's weaknesses. Oscar took a beating solely based on PBF's left jab landing consistently. Oscar couldn't match Mayweather's hand speed, and couldn't land any big shots. That was a long, drawn-out battle. I can see why people could be bored watching a fight like this one, but to me, it was fascinating to watch it unfold. Lots of nuances to a fight like this, but you really have to be paying attention to understand them. Rematch? |

Re: The last big fight De La Hoya - Mayweather
After watching this fight, I see now why I vowed never to watch another over-hyped boxing match.
It's the football equivalent of watching players kick field goals all night long. MMA>>>>>>>>>>>> ;>>>>>>>>>>>>& gt;>>BOXING |

Re: The last big fight De La Hoya - Mayweather
so i don't watch boxing at all these days (zzzzz.z.z.z.z), but today i heard on the radio the Oscar was the promoter for this fight??
...and that he plans to sign PBF after the fight??? So Oscar, nearing over-the-hill makes $25mil + PPV from the fight, and then signs PBF?? Exactely what incentive did Oscar have to win and ruin his future meal-tickets undefeated record again for?? lol, boxing is such a sad sport. |
