As long as moose has some movement on his pitches like he has the past couple of starts and earlier in the season...he's solid as the 3rd or 4thy starter.

i'd feel more confident with the yanks chances of winning a game with moose on the hill than hughes

Re: ~~~ OFFICIAL YANKEES 2007 WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONS OR BUST THREAD ~~
Of course Mussina is going to start. Besides the fact that he's pitched great lately, Joe Torre is still the manager.
I'm guessing the postseason staff will be: Wang Pettitte Clemens Mussina Rivera Chamberlain Vizcaino Ramirez Farnsworth Then there's two more bullpen spots for Hughes, Kennedy and Villone. I think they really want to give a spot to Villone, so root for him to get hammered between now and the end of the season. |

honestly, since ron villone is unlikely to get any meaningful playoff innings, i'd rather have him on there than kennedy for injury reasons. who do you think the position players will be? i forget how big the playoff roster is. will the yankees foolishly leave wilson betemit off? |

[/ QUOTE ] That's a pretty good point, but I could easily imagine Villone coming in to face Ortiz or Hafner or some other lefty in a big spot and, of course, getting crushed. [ QUOTE ] who do you think the position players will be? i forget how big the playoff roster is. will the yankees foolishly leave wilson betemit off? [/ QUOTE ] It's 25, right? So if they carry 11 pitchers that leaves 14 positions players. I haven't thought about it until now, but let's give it a shot: Posada Molina Giambi Cano Jeter Rodriguez Mientkiewicz Betemit Gonzalez Abreu Cabrera Damon Matsui Duncan I'm not sure about this, but I think they can keep one guy who wasn't on the roster on Aug. 31 to replace Pavano. So that would leave one spot for Kennedy or Gonzalez. Do I have that right? Anyway, I can't figure out who they'd keep over Betemit unless they go with eight relievers and Gonzalez. |

Re: ~~~ OFFICIAL YANKEES 2007 WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONS OR BUST THREAD ~~
probably would take 12 pitchers (all 3 of kennedy, villone, hughes) and leave off gonzalez... betemit is the backup 2b/ss/3b there in case of injury
i think |

Re: ~~~ OFFICIAL YANKEES 2007 WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONS OR BUST THREAD ~~
I'd be pretty surprised if they took 12 pitchers. How many relief pitchers do you need when you have a couple of days off per series?
I also think they want Gonzalez on the roster. Afterall, you win in the postseason with small ball and he can run and bunt, plus play defense. |

[/ QUOTE ] Gonzalez, assuming he has any speed, would be a valuable pinch runner/defensive replacement. With only Betemit on the roster, that would mean if Cano and Rodriguez got hurt, who's playing 2nd and who's playing 3rd? Put Betemit at one - who's got 2nd? Doug Mientkiewicz? It would make no sense to take 3 guys who can play 1B and only one utility infielder (who's not even that good a fielder). |
