Been away from internet access for a bit and don't know the conventional wisdom on the forum yet, but Danny Ainge is batshit insane. What an awful awful deal for Boston.

they were going to be mediocre for a while...they got a couple years to sign a role player filled supporting cast and they will have a chance at the title for a few years now...how good do you think jefferson is going to be?

yes Clark most do. Most everyone's opinion I've read about it loves it. Almost every Celtics blog. Simmons. Random joe schmoe comments.
There are some in disagreement, that's expected. But we have a viable shot in a 3 year window. I get to watch an all time great play alongside 2 top 30 players for 82 games. I'm willing to part with my favorite player of the past 3 seasons for this. In 2011 when we suck I'm not going to look back at this and regret it. At least that's the idea. Whereas if we didn't make the deal and next season Ainge gets fired and we keep on rebuilding and we still suck in 2011, I'd just be numb and sad. online, I think Jefferson is going to be an absolute stud. Somewhere along the lines of Brand, maybe? Better if he learns how to play defense. |

I think that Jefferson straight up for KG is a bad deal. Let alone including Green and two firsts and crushing yourself with respect to the cap. And then including a handy role guy like Gomes when they will obviously need someone like him is absurdly poor negotiation. I really doubt Minny was holding this up over Ryan freaking Gomes. |

I think Clark's main contention is that many, myself included, thought Big Al straight up for KG was borderline at best, and Boston probably shouldn't do it. Now we've thrown in an expiring deal, a decent chip in Gerald, and two draft picks (we actually returned the pick Minn owed us in the Wally deal, so it should be a high one). I get that.
However, a lot of that thinking had to do with Paul + KG just wasn't getting it done. It just wasn't worth it. We still wouldn't be much a contender. Ray Allen changes all that. It's a really expensive price. Those draft picks are going to hurt us. But we have a shot now. That's all I ask for. |

Clark - have you factored Garnett jersey sales into your assessment of the trade?

I think the critical thing is that the Celtics are now very, very relevant again. Can we start with the regular season post season predictions? OK - mine are 49 wins, bounced in 2nd round. -Al |
