HUGE game tomorrow. Halladay vs. Beckett. If we lose tomorrow and the Yanks win I can stop having faith :-( [/ QUOTE ] Am I only the Red Sox fan caught completely unawares that the Jays were still in contention? |

Re: 2007 Toronto Blue Jays Thread
The last three games have been brutal, but not suprising.
Now that the Blue Jays eliminated even the slimest hope for the post-season, I bet they sweep the Yankees at home. When you think about, it's just the kind of thing the 2007 Jays would do.... Oh well, next year.. |

Next year we will have batters capable of hitting, and a sick staff and bullpen!

I think we'll have the same hitting lineup as I can't see this team invest any more money into hitting. Hopefully they don't underachieve again. On the other hand, our staff and bullpen overachieved and I don't think it'll be like that next year. Marcum's numbers toward the end of the season sounds about right, I hate being a pessimist but he seriously overachieved. Our pen pitched well but career stats show that it probably won't happen again. I hope the Jays sign one good starter, and if the team can't get into the playoffs, goodbye JP and Gibbons. |

We've had some bad luck this year with injuries so next year I think we can clearly rebound. Wells would have a much better year and whether our bullpen overachieved I'm pretty sure we're still going to have a very decent staff. On paper this is a really good team. BTW, wouldn't it be awesome if we still had Carpenter and Escobar to start with Halladay? |

And hopefully no J.P. Riccardi. [/ QUOTE ] Why? He lost his mind with Royce Clayton, but other than that he's build a pretty good team. |

JP is horrible. He should learn to move the Jays out of a division with the best two teams in baseball.

Anyway Frank Thomas was such a bad decision and could be seen from a mile away. Why pay $10 million for another right handed power bat when the money should have went to pitching. With the money Ted Rogers is shelling out I'm pretty surprised we haven't come close to a playoff spot yet. |

Isn't this Year 7 of the 5-year plan? [/ QUOTE ] The plan was to have a playoff caliber team. They do. They're not the Royals. [ QUOTE ] Anyway Frank Thomas was such a bad decision and could be seen from a mile away. [/ QUOTE ] Except that his production-per-$ is pretty high relative to the other free agents that signed in his FA class. I don't see how this was a terrible signing. [ QUOTE ] Why pay $10 million for another right handed power bat when the money should have went to pitching. [/ QUOTE ] I don't remember any pitchers that were signing for $10 million per, I remember Zito going for a hundred bajillion dollars and Lilly being priced too high. You can't just say "they should have got a pitcher". You can't buy what's not on the market. [ QUOTE ] With the money Ted Rogers is shelling out I'm pretty surprised we haven't come close to a playoff spot yet. [/ QUOTE ] Jays are 17th in payroll in MLB. 8 teams go to the playoffs. They're 14th in wins per $ payroll. They're nothing obvious in there wins/payroll profile to suggest they should be in the playoffs but somehow have been "mismanaged" out of the playoffs. |
