Playing 2b really wears a player down

[/ QUOTE ]

Can you elaborate on this?

[/ QUOTE ]

i assume he is talking about bending over for ground balls, taking the slides when pivoting for the double play, etc

[/ QUOTE ]

As opposed to OFs who run farther and dive all over the place (some of them) and catchers who squat and have hard objects thrown at them at 90 MPH? Or SS who basically do everything a 2B does except they throw harder?

I am just curious as to what evidence there is that 2Bs wear down more than other players over their careers. It doesn't seem that different than playing any other position except C (and DH, I suppose).

[/ QUOTE ]

2B obviously get more action than Outfielders. Middle Infielders have to make the most plays.

I'll go along with that, I'll even believe that 2Bs wear down faster than other players...when I see the data. It's believable, but that's not good enough for me.

I mean, sure OF have fewer chances. But which is harder on the body - bending down to pick up 600 ground balls and throwing to first or running as fast as you can to track down 400 fly balls and throwing them back to the infield? I don't know the answer.

Where are all the trade rumors people?

I have heard Manny going to SF or possibly LAD. But for what in SF? Matt Cain? In LAD supposedly Billingsley and Kemp?

How about the proposed Angels/Chisox trade? Figgins and Santana for Crede and F. Garcia. I think it is a decent trade for both teams, but much better for CHI in the long term.

Oh yeah, and the Arod to STL for Eck and Spiezio, the Yanks are looking for more guts/heart. Supposedly Jocketty turned B. Cash down. Oh well.

That is the dumbest trade rumor I have ever read. Why on earth would the Yankees do that, they arent THAT desperate to get rid of him...

lol @ you for not knowing a single minor league prospect in either system.

EDIT: SF has Marcus Sanders, Tim Lincecum for starters. LAD has James Loney, Jonathan Broxton (the Red Sox said they were interested in him), just to name a few.

[/ QUOTE ] Data and logic support this point. 2b get slid into more than anybody else (on double play) and 2b have simply have faded faster than other players (retire earlier and decline quicker) except catchers and pitchers.

Derosa has played a lot of outfield and 3b, which means he has an advantage in this area.

lincecum can't be traded yet.

if the sawks were really looking to build an offer around linebrink for manny, they'll definitely take broxton.
