Anyone know the mechanics of the voting process? I would have thought that the votes would be recorded electronically, somehow. But if that's the case, then why doesn't this process happen more quickly?

15 minutes and counting. I'm either running to the 'fridge for a beer celebration or drowning my sorrows in beer. :-/

What kind of poker player are you? 18-year old scotch is the proper drink for this occasion!

Read Caro's book on Lyndon Johnson, Master of the Senate ... That's Robert Caro, not Mike Caro.

As I would agree...I don't have any scotch so the best thing I have at the moment is the beer...yeah, I know I'm lame, but what can I say?

I've read it. I don't believe there was any mention of whether computers were used to record votes 40 years ago.

They are recorded electronically, but members work out of their offices across the street from the Capitol and come in for votes from there. Takes a few minutes to get over there.

All debate is watched on closed cicuit (sp) tv and c-span while they are over in their offices taking meetings with constituents, advocacy groups, at hearings, etc.
