Re: The Worst Strategy You\'ve Overheard at a Table
(3/6) Splash the pot promotion at a Tunica casino. Every few hours the house puts $50 in the pot before any hands are dealt. As the dealer is dealing the ten seat asks if he's ever seen anyone fold preflop during this promotion. Dealer responds just once. UTG promptly folds. Everyone else at the table gives him crazed looks. After the hand is over I ask UTG why he folded. "I didn't have a good hand".

Re: The Worst Strategy You\'ve Overheard at a Table
This one came up this weekend in NL1/2. Unraised flop comes out something like A93 with two clubs. BB bets $10, UTG goes all-in for $35, UTG+1 guy hemms and haws, shows his neighbor and finally folds. BB calls. UTG+1 says "you have a flush draw, don't you...I folded aces-up." Jaws drop. Sure enough, river is a club and BB flips over his flush draw that hit.
UTG+1 continues to pat himself on the back. "I KNEW what you had, I just KNEW I was doing the right thing. I knew my two pair would be outdrawn." I quietly say "excellent laydown, sir, I woulda been right in there if I had aces up and I woulda lost". He explains "yeah, you just gotta go with those feelings when you're just positive the flush draw is gonna hit." |

Re: The Worst Strategy You\'ve Overheard at a Table
the one that stands out in my mind is the time someone told me "it's important to get a read on the players but it's more important to get a read on the dealer. it helps you know the cards he's going to deal out."

Re: The Worst Strategy You\'ve Overheard at a Table
had a woman tell me at a donkament Saturday night after two people had won with AA, that she would fold AA b/c 'the odds are it's not gonna win 3 times in a row.'

You would need a computer to really figure out what stakes you have to be playing to call with any 2 preflop for 50 extra bucks. |

You're getting 100 to 6 on your call and then (especially at your typical calling-station-filled 3/6 table) there are meaningful implied odds on top of that. Meanwhile, even 27o makes the best hand at showdown on a 10-handed table over 5% of the time. |

Since most of the times you make the best hand you're probably not sure that its best and are going to have to call a lot to see showdown. Even if you hit a hand on the flop you'll probably be sucked out on a large number of times by showdown. Regardless, you're probably right and it should be a call. But its close, and its most definitely not the dumbest thing anybody has ever heard at a low limit table. |

I don't think the guy is dumb for folding, he's just a nit.

"What could I do? I was pot committed!" [/ QUOTE ] I know, I hear that too. Man, I love TV poker. Has made some great poker players! (to play against) I heard the same line from a guy heads up (final 2) in a home tournament. He called an all in bet on the turn with 4 high, no pair no draw no potential for a split pot with a strong hand on the board. His reasoning? He was "pot committed". |
