jsnipes- LOL

I mean, I don't plan on living off 2m for the rest of my life, but I know I could w/ a family. I can also see spending 2m+ a year if i had that kind of money.

do you not realize how many millions of americans live off <50k a year combined incomes? and live paycheck to paycheck? have you seen what the median income is for the US?

100k a year is a LOT of money in the vast majority of the country.

i'd love to get in this discussion, but the fact is i'm from the midwest, and while i aspire to someday be worth more than 2m, the fact of the matter is 2m producing 100-200k a year along with other business ventures and the very relaxed poker lifestyle (assming i might want to play the occasional tournament or cash game, and make mid five figures at best without doing much) is plenty for me to get by. of course i'll be driving a nice car, probably have a mid 6 figure house and maybe even a summer home, but beyond all that- if i'm worth 2m, i can do that easily, assuming i'm not "retired retired" where i have absolutely no real estate/business ventures/poker income.

sorry if i plan on living a life of luxury and comfort. sorry if i want to have a house in nyc, a house in san francisco, a house in france, and a house in miami. sorry if i want to travel multiple times a year. sorry if i want to eat at nice restaurants many times a week.

sorry i dont want to be like the many millions of americans who live from paycheck to paycheck.

sorry if i want to be on top of the world financially, because it lets me be on top of the world in almost every other way as well.

sorry if my drive to be extremely successful is offputting.

I think people on this board are vastly overestimating how much money 2mm is.

Do you plan on having a wife and kids at any point? You sure as hell are not supporting a family on 100k/yr even if you don't have any higher aspirations (that are seemingly absurd to some of you).

You're probably the kind of guy who has never bought a pair of pants below $100 have you?

jeff i can obviously do all those things (with the exceptions ofa house in nyc and sf, which obviously i don't want) on 2m.

obviously i will never live paycheck to paycheck.

i doubt your post was directed at me, i'm just saying that your claims that 10m is that much greater than 2m, which, althought true, are just not significant enough for you to rant about how great you wanan be.

that ambition is great. for me, i wanna be great at poker, but i'll underachieve in everything else and feel damn good about it.

it was directed at ace for bringing up that "millions of americans" make <50k and live from paycheck to paycheck.

im obviously grateful about poker, but even w/o poker, i dont CARE what millions of americans are doing. i dont care that the median income is 27k.

i have never wanted to be an average person or to live an average life - even w/o poker i would not be satisfied w/an average income. who the hell wants to be average? i sure as hell dont, because im not an average person.

I wonder what types of backgrounds people on here come from? I don't mean it any negative or condescending way, I just think that if people were more aware of how quickly 2mm is spent that they might be more hesitant in their proclamations of retiring by 30 and sitting on their 2mm 'nest egg.'

Snipes I <3 you man but I think you're wrong here. $100k a year is more than enough for anybody who wants to live comfortably. I've grown up sort of poor most of my life so this is more me speaking from experience than anything else. My mom and stepdad probably made $30k a year when I was growing up combined before taxes and had two kids. Like I said we were somewhat poor, but we were never that poor, we just couldn't afford nice stuff, couldn't afford to buy a house. But I had a fine childhood and we were living a fairly normal life. I realize that the value of money has changed from when we were kids but even now I don't see how $100k isn't enough to support a full family. Maybe where you come from $100k is nothing, but that's not true for the majority of people. The past few years my family was probably bringing in $40k a year tops, and we had a nice home (although small), plenty of luxuries, etc. This is all on top of the fact that my family has really bad money management.

$100k isn't enough if you're living a lifestyle that demands a $250k income, but there is no way that $100k isn't plenty to live on. Do you realize how many families are making nowhere close to that?
