They're going with a 6 man rotation for the time being. Kennedy is slated for Saturday...as per probable pitchers on yankees.com

On ESPN.com it says that Moose starts tonight and Pettite starts tomorrow. WTF? Why are they skipping Kennedy? Or is this wrong? [/ QUOTE ] indications are that he is nearing his IP limit for the season... they are trying to keep him away from that |

Re: ~~~ OFFICIAL YANKEES 2007 WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONS OR BUST THREAD ~~
i don't think Kennedy is near his limit. i've read (but can't find it now) that he has no ceiling this year, as opposed to Joba. he is ~ 165 IP this year. first of all, he is a year older than Joba. secondly, his delivery is much-much smoother. and finally, IIRC, he was throwing more innings in college than comparable pitchers, so i believe there are indications that he is naturally a much bigger innings eater.

Re: ~~~ OFFICIAL YANKEES 2007 WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONS OR BUST THREAD ~~
He pitched only 100 innings last year. Huge jumps between years is very risky, so I would be surprised if he throws another 30 innings this year.

[/ QUOTE ] I posted the same thing before, but it's not quite right. Turns out he also pitched for Team USA each of the last two years. Here's what Cashman said when they first brought him up, from Peter Abraham's blog: [ QUOTE ] Innings cap for Kennedy: “No, he’s below it. He had a heavy workload with USC and USA Baseball.” So Kennedy could pitch every five days through the end of the season? “Yes.” [/ QUOTE ] But as far as I can tell, he only threw 30 innings with Team USA last year. That would be about 130 innings for the year. And he's at about 165 this year, so maybe Cashman wasn't being completely honest. I agree with you that he probably won't pitch much more this year. |

How much of an increase in innings do you think they're going to allow him this year?
