Burrell has a career .838 OPS. You guys really think Werth or Dobbs can do better than that?

Much as I don't think Bourn/Werth are anything to scream about I'd much rather watch them strikeout than Burrell.

dobbs at left. helms/nunez split at 3rd
and most importantly......BURRELL ON THE PINE!!

[/ QUOTE ]

These statements are both really wrong

Phillies OBP:
Burrell - .387
Bourn - .366
Werth - .347
Nunez - .327
Dobbs - .314
Helms - .303

Now DUCY?

1)he's a defensive liability and horrible at baserunning
2)his clutch hitting is something to be desired, see tonight for example

whats his OBP with RISP??

ill admit that he knocks in his fair share of runs (~90 RBIs last year), but they always seem to be the most worthless runs

i know it sounds ridiculous, but i swear to god its true

edit to add:

Burrell AB/OPS/AVG/RBI: 166/.764/.223/24
Dobbs AB/OPS/AVG/RBI: 101/.801/.267/22

looking at these stats (OPS being much, much more important than AVG), id say dobbs has been much more productive in a limited amount of time as compared to pat

dobbs has also proven himself to be a clutch hitter this season while burrell hasnt

i really dont think this is much of a debate. for the amount that the phillies are paying burrell, he isnt productive and should be traded at all costs IMO

While I agree that Pat has been less than stellar this year, his numbers at Shea Stadium are ridiculous, and thus, you need to play him there.

Seriously, for some reason he rakes the Mets in NY.

They won despite this, but it was a poor move, especially with Perez pitching since Nunez hasn't been hitting righties nearly as well as he's been hitting left handers.

I would have gone with Burrell in left, Dobbs at third, and Nunez on the bench.

Also remember that he only started in maybe half the games the last quarter of the year because he was splitting time with Conine, Delucci, and Victorino. I obviously agree that Burrell is tremendously overpaid and underachieving, but he's a better player than our other guys and should be out there. You can't just evaluate players by their batting average, which is what Manuel seems to be doing.

I think Burrell gets judged off of how he produces. Normally I would say that BA w/ RISP is a useless stat, but when you see Burrell on a daily basis and you can see his problem. Whenever there is a spot where he could get a big hit he starts to put too much pressure on himself and cannot preform.

Sure guy on second in a 2-0 game in the third inning he can get a hit. Intentionally walk Howard to load the bases in the 7th and he strikes out.

I agree he should be playing against the Mets and he should be the regular LF. I just think we become too obssesed with OBP when the guy walks and then clogs up the bases and makes terrible baserunning mistakes. How else can you explain a guy who is on base 38% of the time scoring only 22 runs? When you have guys behind you with OPS's of 900 & 800 this can only be happening if the guy lacks any ability to run the bases.

Burrell actually is hitting well w/RISP this year, with a .910 OPS.
