Thanks. I'm pretty sure the game was over when I woke up anyway, I just didn't want to check and spoil the score in case it was still on.

If you watched it, how did Diarra look with them?

[/ QUOTE ]

Diarra and Cannavaro were the most impressive players on Real Madrid.

The only problem is that both teams seemed to lack creativity when attacking. Considering how many changes Real Madrid went through this summer, it's not surprising. Cappello said it best this past Wednesday, "they just need time."

It's amazing how many Real Madrid fans are already calling for the head of Capello.

I think the Diarra and Cannavaro transfers were perhaps the best of the summer. Nice to hear they're off to a good start, even if they are with the wrong team.

it's not because of this result, it's because of the way capello sees football. people who saw the game told me it was the most defensive real in ages. he's the 1-0 italian type coach and they like that in italy but in most other countries fans just hate it, ESPECIALLY in barca and madrid who are probably the most "romantic" football teams ever. basically they want real to play like barca has in the last 2 seasons, not defend like they're santander or levante.

I'm sure all this has been done by someone before, only better, but I've spent a little time the last couple of days working on some fun stuff with numbers. So far, I've got a very rough adjusted standings here (Geocities link, it sucks) that I hope to update semi regularly. If anyone knows how to more easily go from Excel to a webpage (especially with sortable columns), I can update it after each gameday. Also, I have the same thing done for Serie A that I can throw up there once the season starts.

I also have a spreadsheet with each players' minutes and goals and a few metrics based on them. It's broken down by position too. If there's interest, I'd be happy to get it online as well, but only if there's an easy way to do it (must be sortable, otherwise it's kind of lame). I'd rather not just put the Excel files up on a file hosting site to download.

You have Man U projected at finishing with 133.3 points. I think that even the proverbial team of aliens would have difficulty finishing with 133 points, considering that even a 38-0-0 team only has 114 points.

[/ QUOTE ]yeah, I don't understand how a team can "expect" 7 points per game when 3 is the maximum possible. Perhaps I just don't understand your numbers, or perhaps they are just really skewed because of the small sample size. This will be interesting to look at in a month.

Read the asterisks at the bottom. It was explained there, but basically their goal differential and goals are unsustainably high right now. As I said, it's still very rough, and the approximations only work within a certain range. The short answer is scoring and allowing that many goals in three games this early in the season will break it. In a couple games or so most likely, it'll be fixed.
