Re: Post the name here of a random 1980s baseball player
Brian Downing
I was in the bleachers in Oakland and Brian had a great game. 1st at bat home run about 50 ft to the left of me 10th row. 2nd at bat home run same place the guy in the 11th row catches the ball. 3rd at bat ground rule double about 2 rows in front of these guys. For his fourth at bat most of the bleacher crowd is sitting in this small area waiting for the next ball. Sure enough he hits it and it’s coming right at me. Dusty Baker crashes into the fence and with glove over the fence catches the ball and leaves the game injured. They showed the catch on the sports machine that night and I could see my hands right there for the catch. |

[ QUOTE ]
Self-inflicted gunshot wound edition. Eric Show. [/ QUOTE ] lol. I remember the game he hit Andre Dawson in the face with a fastball. I was watching it and Dawson was charging all over the field trying to get to Show with blood all over his face (he couldn't really see). Players were holding him back, and Show was sort of running. A crazy scene; I was 8 at the time and still remember it vividly. |

Tom Brookens [/ QUOTE ] Dammit, too slow. Wikipedia on Brookens: [ QUOTE ] On January 9, 1975, Brookens was drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the 1st round (4th pick overall) of the 1975 amateur draft. In 12 major league seasons, Brookens played 1065 games at third base, 162 games at 2nd base, and 119 games at shortstop. It is often said that the only man to be as sexy as him was Tom Selleck. [/ QUOTE ] Ah, the 80s, when you could hit .246 and still have a 12 year career. Also: Walt Terrell Sid Monge Barbaro Garbey |
