How do you know this downtime isnt because of a system upgrade?

Adding a new 100 gigabit switching server isn't a "flip of a switch" task.

A few people have touched on something that I dont' understand.

Although I am the first to admit that I am not the most computer literate person, would Party gaming not benefit from investing more money in itself? Or do these crashes occur no matter how much money you throw at them?

They certainly seem to be pissing it away fairly quickly right now, I would guess somewhere in the neighborhood of 200 k in the past two hours.

How many Indian programmers does 200k American buy?

Party Poker is a poorly run company.

You realize how much effort the programmers and server operators have to put in to this kind of stuff, millions and millions of small money transfers are going on every day, if they realize the smallest potential hole in their software they have to completly shut down before they can allow anyone back in. To them, being hackerproof trumps short term profits.

You may also be surprised to hear that technology isn't perfect, you realize how many carriers that Party has to use (and has no control over) to get high speed data transfers overseas to hundreds of thousands of people worldwide?

This is just the kind of BS excuse the second-best programmers and second-best consultancy firms use. They get away with it, since the programming business in general does not have enough competent personell to perform at a high level, thus customers are used to bad work, and thus sort of tolerates it. There are programmers and firms who know how to do things well, and Party would sure benefit from hiring one instead of believing the lies of whoever they use.

Why are they doing this when there are 60,000 players online and quickly rising? Why not do this when there are <20,000 players online?

Yeah, I was looking forward to this being the first week where I actually double my target, but that may not happen now. I was excited about how helpful it was to go from blue to silver before the promotion is over and be able to use my extra point-accumulating power to crush the last week of A8.

The best thing is being down a shitload in the first 2-3 hours of your session, and getting kind of pissed-off-angry-happy-trigger happy knowing that the revenge is coming in the next 3-4 hours you'll be playing, then BOOM!
