Diablo,

Why do I care? I didn't really care, but it was really [censored] bothering me that I knew the guy from someplace and couldn't remember where. Kind of like when you think of a song, and remember that it was a really good song, but can't remember the title, who sang it or how it went.

[/ QUOTE ]

When you try to recall a song, do you stare at a guy, or walk around him if he turns away so you can still peer into his face? Or point at him and whisper to people?

Not saying you do. Just wondering.

[/ QUOTE ]

Well I try to figure out what the song is.

Blarg,

I agree with your point completely, which is exactly why I didn't go up to him or ask for a picture or anything because yeah, if I were him I wouldn't want some jackass coming up to me either.

That still doesn't answer how the [censored] do I figure out who he is?

[/ QUOTE ]

Tell security you think he has a bomb and was muttering threats about jihad. When they tackle him, they'll go -- "Hey, this is no terrorist, this is beloved star of stage and screen and all around nice guy, [star name]!" Bingo!

2 experiences like this spring to mind for me:
I was at a restaraunt, whole bunch of people were clamouring around this guy, asked one of the people around me who it was, they didn't know either, and then someone told me it was the guy who had come second in the last big brother.
Another time, another restaraunt, different dining partners. Same sort of experience, turns out it was Ace Frehley, sans makeup.
Didn't talk to either.

Wow, those were bad celebrity sightings. I put those on the level of that party I was at where Dale, the trumpeter from Oingo Boingo, was suppposed to be showing up to hang out. He didn't.

I'm pretty sure I was sitting in front of a famous pro wrestler at a Busch Gardens show. I watched wrestling as a kid, but then grew out of it, only to later resume watching for a few years. This sighting happened somewhere in between, and I'm still unsure of who it was. Possibly Stone Cold or Goldberg.

You see a celebrity. You want him to think that you're cool.

Running up to him and saying, "I thought you were great in that movie where you were...." is going to put him to sleep. He hears it 1000 times a day.

When I was working in Las Vegas, this guy came in to bet horses:

You've seen him a million times. He:

--shot Dennis Franz six times in the first season of "NYPD Blue"
--was Franz's brother, and was the cop who gave Bruce Willis a ticket at the beginning, in "Die Hard 2"
--thought his wife was sleeping with Mike Tyson in "Honeymoon in Vegas"
--was the waiter in "Forget Paris"
--was in "Total Recall"
--was Joey's Dad on "Friends"

Guy's IMDB sheet is a mile long. Nobody knows his name, but everyone loves him.

Anyways, he's trying to bet the trotters at Meadowlands, and every time he comes to the windows, a different clerk is bugging him. "Hey, aren't you the guy who..."

"Yeah, yeah, I'm the guy," and he'd grab his tickets and run back to his seat.

So he finally comes to my window. I'm a huge NYPD Blue fan, and he's standing right in front of me about a week after Sipowicz put dog crap in his lasagna. It is KILLING me not to bring this up. Instead, I greet him with, "Did you have that tri?"

"What?"

"The trifecta at Meadowlands last race paid $11,000. I thought you had it."

"Me? No!"

"You didn't have it? What the [censored] is the matter with you? How could you not have that one?"

Now this guy loves me. He spent the rest of the day coming to my window.

Some friends and I took a short road trip to see the Bruins play at the Islanders. We spent most of gameday in the bar at the Marriott next to the Coliseum. Didn't see any current players, but saw lots of former players we recognized who were coaches (guys like Butch Goring and Terry O'Reilly and Mike Milbury).

My buddy started running all over the lobby, getting autographs on cocktail napkins. I stayed on my barstool, as I'm too cool to chase for autographs.

Some guy walked by, we didn't know who he was. But he was young, in great shape, and was carrying an equipment bag. My buddy ran to him with a napkin, and when he got back, we all tried to figure out who Pierre Champoux was.

We went to the game a few hours later. Turns out Pierre Champoux was one of the referees.
