Re: lollapalooza

[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] if i pay $140 can you give me something that doesnt feel like an oldies reunion tour? [/ QUOTE ] Rrrrr? There are a slew of good and relevant bands in this lineup. Who really cares about the headliners? [/ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] the promoters and concert goers care. [/ QUOTE ] [/ QUOTE ] Meh. The promoters probably do, I'll give you that. I don't think the average festival-goer cares one bit who is featured in that 8:30 slot. This isn't Bonnaroo where the entire night is centered around the headliner. You're in downtown Chicago and you've seen a lot of (likely better) bands throughout the day. [ QUOTE ] but most of the bands i do like i have seen over the years. i still love sonic youth and have seen them three times and would be happy to see them again. many other bands ive seen before. i bet ive paid anywhere betweeen $10-20 to see them (on the list i most notably i saw what made milwaukee famous for $10 along w/ clap your hands and the nationals). [/ QUOTE ] Yeah, great show. And cheap. I've seen a ton of cheap shows too, but getting the chance to spend three days seeing a ton of decent to very good bands all is worth a bit more. I don't know, I guess just a lot more bands in this lineup excite me than they do you. Yeah, there is going to be some overlap of decent bands, but not really as much as you would think. And if it's set up like last year, it's like a 3 minute walk to other stages. The really bad part is that you can pretty much hear what's going on at the other stage(s), unless they work out the sound better. [ QUOTE ] $150 just seems like an awful lot for me. i rather see current bands than some of these others that are riding on 10 year old albums and driving ticket prices up. [/ QUOTE ] It's a bit steep I guess, but mostly because it really costs a boat load more, as you can't bring anything with you. So you're paying for a lot of beer/food/accomodations, etc... |

Re: lollapalooza
Ps, didn't Sparta break up with Paul joining the Mars Volta and taking over Jeremy's old role?

Re: lollapalooza
bwana,
You are way off, the line up is sick. Though I suspect thievery will not do well in the environment. Not exactly their thing. J |

Re: lollapalooza
soul and jaydub,
edu-ma-cate-me. why is this ticket worth it? what bands do you want to see that you cant see in a smaller venue for a cheaper price? remember that a lot of these band will be playing at the same time. if you list many, you miss many. bwana |

Re: lollapalooza
bwana,
I'm not necessarily arguing that it's "worth" $150. It's just that I'm going to spend that much on a night or two out on the town, so I don't think it's an extravagant amount. I'm just arguing that the lineup is pretty solid. I would like to see: Kanye West Wilco The Raconteurs The Flaming Lips Queens of the Stone Age The Shins Common Sonic Youth Thievery Corporation Sleater-Kinney Broken Social Scene The New Pornographers Iron & Wine The Secret Machines Eels Panic! At the Disco Andrew Bird Stars Blackalicious Lyrics Born Calexico Feist Aqualung The Hold Steady The Go! Team The Redwalls Of Montreal And I'm sure Red Hot Chili Peppers put on a good show. Obviously, I won't see them all if I go. Yes, you will miss a few acts due to the competing stages and priorities will have to dictate your viewings. Not that many though. Only 2 of the 4 main stages will have acts performing at a time and the other stage is mainly for B acts. And like I said before, the stages are really close. Which is both good and bad. Hopefully they've worked out some of the sound kinks from last year. |

Have you ever been to such an event? How many nights would one have to go out to catch all the bands and over what time frame? [/ QUOTE ] well i live in austin, texas and today i just finished sxsw. went to austin city limits fest this year as i have done every year. sxsw wrist band costs less than $100 for 3 days and can get you into maybe 70 clubs. ACL is for 3 days and is across 5 major stages. so yeah, id say im familiar w/ the event. ive also been to 2 lollas. if im motivated enough ill write a trip report on seeing the arctic monkeys. they were so great. one of the best shows ive seen in a long time. but yes, im familiar w/ the big venenue setup. no problem. bwana |

Re: lollapalooza
bwana,
Then wtf are you bitching about? $20? $50? Like the ticket price matters at such an event, food + beverage costs dwarf a ticket. J |
