[ QUOTE ]
My roommate and I were sitting at the bus stop heading to class when this guy stands right in front of us with a small pistol pointed at us and tells us to get in a car parked right behind us.

Since we were sitting down and the guy had a gun right on us we decided to get in the car. They made us empty out our pockets taking our cell phones, wallets, credit cards, and car/house keys. His fat ass girlfriend or whatever she was drove us around to several different ATMs as they emptied money out of our checking/savings accounts, etc.

After they took enough money to satisfy them, probably like $500 they dropped us off in the middle of the ghetto. We hitched a bus ride back into town, went to a Wells Fargo, cancelled are credit cards immediately, and called the police.

The police escorted us back to our house (the robbers had our house keys and address), and we got our cars and valuables out before they could come back.

How would you guys have handled the situation? In hindsight I think I would have tried to do everything possible to not get into the car since the officer later informed me that 90% of the time people who get into cars don't come back.

I hope they catch these assholes. It's scary to think what might have happened if it had been women or little kids instead of 19 year old males.

I think I file this under my insane responses, namely: fake a seizure immediately or begin beating the [censored] out of myself with my fists. I think that this derails almost any situation if you get into it 100%. Imagine trying to drag somebody into a car who is hellbent on kicking their own ass. It makes things very difficult for the theif, especially if he doesn't know your medical/mental history.

You may get shot, but I think it's doubtful. Getting into the car and living is more doubtful, at least in my mind.

wow, obviouslt this is easy to say in hind sight and not having a gun pointed at you, but there is now way I would get in that car. I would give up cash, credit cards, etc. sure but would not continue on with them.
What were you thinking getting in that car? (And I don't mean that in the sarcastic sense, literally what were you thinking, "I'm gonna die, I better listen or I'll die, I don't wanna die, etc" that kind of stuff?) Pretty scary.

The best option is to pull your own gun out and shoot him at the first opportune moment. If you don't have one, pull out your wallet, throw it and run, like someone else suggested. Even if he fired at you, he is very likely to miss. Getting into a car is always -EV.

I'm not really anti-gun, but this is tied for worst thing to do (along with getting into the car).

Nope, unless the robber is going to kill you no matter what you do, pulling out your own gun and shooting gives you the edge on him because he has to react to your action. That split second advantage is key.

You can't possibly think that starting a gunfight is better than running away, can you? I think your chances of survival are WAY higher if you just jet.

Hilarious and difficult for the thief to maintain a tough guy image during. It's basically the only thing I can think of that makes the thief ask himself if this [censored] is really worth it without escalating the potential violence of the situation to the thief.

Hard to say. Is the guy drunk and just waving the gun around? Or is he focused? If it was the former, running would be the better option, but if the latter, the highest percentage win rate will be to draw your own, saying something like you are getting your wallet. If he is focused and you try to run, he may plug you after your first step not even giving you a chance.
