Queens?

Yeah, I know that UofT Engineering Science is significantly tougher than Queens, I have a 3 friends from high school in the program right now. Queen's is still fairly tough, at least by Canadian standards. Physics ain't easy.

Anyways, people who don't finish in 4 years include
1) Athletes
2) Co-op students
3) People who want to travel (some do it after they graduate)
4) People who need to work to pay for school
5) People who burn out and then come back.

I went to a state school where I had a scholarship that was large enough that I took home a significant amount of money. I don't see any reason why I should have graduated in three years instead of four.

FWIW, I know VERY few people that have been able to graduate in four years or less.

Me too. (second degree thing sounds pretty sweet: what did you study?)

Meh, it's not that hard to do a semester abroad and still graduate in four years.

most good colleges have 4-yr graduation rates of 90% or higher. state schools, even good ones have lower #s, but most people I've met seem to do it.

Those figures like the 63% you cite probably include people in community college, those that drop out after one year, etc.

[/ QUOTE ]

This is really wrong. No way most top colleges have 90% 4 year graduation. I went to Cornell and most of my friends including myself graduated in 4 years or less but that's way, way too high. 90% is really, really high. Usnews reports 5 year grad rates if that's what your using.

APs? I knew a kid at Cornell that was taking 50 credits a semester at times. I had a friend who took 25-28 a semester for 2 years.

APs are sweet. I got a [censored]ton of credit out of them even here where they're picky and at state school I'd have been out of there in no time.

One of my high school friends was in a medical school program where he only went to college for 2-years before starting medical school. In other words, he applied to the medical school out of high school, and the program was 2-years at undergrad followed by 4-years at med school. So he was a doctor when he was 23. But IIRC, they didn't actually given him an undergrad diploma until two years into med school.
