You're living in a world class city where the losers at Tim Horton's make $16/hr and you want to move?

Who moves FROM Calgary?

Weird.

[/ QUOTE ]

QFT.

The winters kind of blow if you're not into snow sports, but summer in Calgary is great, it's full of attractive women and there's like negative 10% unemployment.

Would move back there in a heartbeat if I could get a visa.

Different people want different things, and for many people outside of the US the country seem more appealing than it does for many americans. Im from Norway myself, a country with super healthy economy and tops most of international lists indicating standard of living. I still would love to work in the US, it has lots to offer that you wont find other places.

jj,

what job and how much does it pay? i live in NY and am brizoke

[/ QUOTE ]

I'm a Software Development and make approximately 75/year. If you're looking for a job in the field let me know. I'm actually paid a bit below the New York average for my job, but we generally have 40 hours a week (instead of say 80 hours a week) and I don't work with idiots.

Don't try to find work let work find you. Go stand out in front of home depot.

So everybody outside of New York tells me. But aside from ridiculous rent costs, I don't notice most other things being that expensive. I guess I was use to Ontario prices and tax, but I live quite comfortably here so thats all I care about.

well,

the average wage doesn't mean a whole lot until you look at the cost of living as well.
For example, minimum wage in Sweden is $21/hr,
but it also costs $30+ for an cheap meal.

Since you're Canadian I assume you're well-schooled in wizardy and other black arts. You can probably make a good living conjuring up fire sprites and frightening old people and the homeless / mentally unstable out of whatever change they have on them. Also consider performing some feats of elemental magic (shooting lightning out of your eyes, etc) at county fairs and such.

Alternately, use your Canadian powers of shapeshifting to become a tree and live in a national park.

You can't get a job unless you have a Visa or Work Permit or Green card, and I've heard there's a 3 year waiting list unless you're in a special category. I assume you've looked all this up?

You just can't come to USA and get a job ya know, that's called "illegal immigration"

Actually, as an engineer if he has an offer letter in hand he can just show up. They'll give him a visa at the border.

It's called NAFTA.

I stand corrected.

However, how the OP doesn't seem capable of obtaining an offer letter at this point in time, if he has to ask OOT how to find a job. IMO, of course.
