Re: Expected IQ of Pro Player?
[ QUOTE ]
Highest IQ ever was estimed like 250-300, the guy could speak like 10 languages at the age of 11, also lectured people at the age of twelve on 4 dimensional [censored] or somthing. I think general IQ of most players, like barry greenstien, david sklansky is like 120, considering their mathmatical knowledge is high [/ QUOTE ] Everything in your post is completely wrong. |

Re: Expected IQ of Pro Player?
i think IQ is certainly a factor, but there are so many other personal traits that affect you abilities in poker I would guess that having an IQ over 140 doesn't really help you all that much as it would in a game like, say, chess.

Re: Expected IQ of Pro Player?
Just a quick note on psychopathy...
Dr. Robert Hare , (leading researcher on psychopathy), performed a series of experiments on people judged to have a psychopathic personality... So, seeing as these individuals score high on traits of fearlessness and such, you could infer that they would have an aptitude for performing high risk tasks such as dismantling explosives and flying fighter jets... However, in his research the general conclusion reached was that psychopaths are far too reckless to perform such tasks and take unnecessary risks without adequate foresight. Although the above mentioned occupations/ tasks differ to poker in many respects, I could possibly imagine the general principle reached by Dr. Hare "could" apply to poker playing psychopaths. So I would have to disagree with the conclusion that many poker professionals have a cluster B personality style. Actually, I would be more inclined to agree with Barry Greenstein's summation that many poker players possess obsessive-compulsive personality traits (many situations in poker are replayed time and again). good topic, hope I was able to add to this discussion |
