Serious question - but what exactly is "emo" music?

I always thought 80s bands like Depeche Mode and The Smiths were emo.

[/ QUOTE ]
Emo is short for 'emotional hardcore.' It's the angsty-sounding music from guys in black make-up listened to by writers of horrible poetry. So like The Used or My Chemical Romance.

Sadly it used to be for actual hardcore bands that were kinda good sometimes, especially in the late 80s/early 90s when DC punks like Fugazi and Nation of Ulysses and Rites of Spring were inventing it.

It's now an adjective that means "pussy-like". Hudge beat for music and the world.
