jallabar - I started in April 2006, went hardcore into it in October 2006, back in Pokerroom.com (wildest mofos you'll ever meet in your life) But then I had to adjust to Pokerstars In February 2007, while dealing with a failing semester, but for now I've been playing 5-7 days a week ever since June.

It's a MUST for anyone trying to take this game seriously. My goal in poker is to become as good a player as I can. I am assuming that if I do this then I will make more money, but to become a better player I need to move up. I think the 20k rule is good: Get Poker tracker. Ignore your previous winnings, and start at hand 0. Play 20k hands. If you are making 5bb/100 hands move up to 50nl. Rinse. Repeat. If you are not, then play another 20k at that limit untill you can beat the game for that ammount. Im sure Baluga Whale made a pooh-bah post about this in ssnl, and Im pretty sure it was about Confidence and Skill but I have no idea how to link it.

Holla ... you can live of 25NL if need be, but attempting to live of 5NL is streching it, while winrates above 5 ptbb/100 are possible, calculating with target rates higher than 5ptbb/100 is not to be recommended.
I can 12 table if need be, but usually do 8-9 due to 1600x1200 resolution monitor and overlap issues. But dude You have no idea of variance and the pain that is poker ... trust me on this one.

Any young person who lets poker get in the way of their education isn't bright enough to deserve the opportunity to have that education in the first place.
Miserable old bastards like Gelford and me have had our hopes and dreams trashed by life's variances at this stage, so poker is all we have left to cling to. So it's different if you are older.
