Re: The Military and Armed Conflict
[ QUOTE ]
Humans believe in universal morality. It's in their genes . It's undeniable. If at any time you hurt someone else, your own humanity suffers, and with it your capacity to be happy and to have natural emotions of joy. [/ QUOTE ] I dont' think those words mean what you think they mean. [ QUOTE ] They are bamboozled and sad victims of the meatgrinding state/ruling class. [/ QUOTE ] Who is this ruling class you always speak of, and who are the millions they oppress. [ QUOTE ] Death star objection? [/ QUOTE ] Ok one of us doesn't know what those words mean. I always thought the DSO referenced the idea that it's not fair to say a system would fail to protect us from something the current system (or any other it's being compared to) because neither can prevent special situations like that. Then later it would be misapplied many times when used to describe things that are prevented under statism. What does "conflict being inevitable" have to do with the DSO. Cody |

Re: The Military and Armed Conflict
[ QUOTE ]
1. What do you think of people who join the military, and why? [/ QUOTE ] The ideals are fine, the reality is somewhat different. [ QUOTE ] 2. Do you think armed conflict is sometimes unavoidable? [/ QUOTE ] Absolutely. If only for diplomacy - the readiness to go to war stays a lot of hands IMO, and demonstrating this means sometimes actually going to war. Certain nations may have thought twice had the US not been so isolationist in 30s/40s. [ QUOTE ] 3. What avenues can one take if they wish to help in an armed conflict on a soldiering level? [/ QUOTE ] None except for the military. [ QUOTE ] 5. What do you think of private security forces? (emphasis on "forces" and not a department store security guard) [/ QUOTE ] A dangerous idea. Legitimizing the use of force to private interests, whose first motivation is profit, seems unwise to me. It works ok in one's own country, as they're restrained by custom, but in a war torn country it seems like a recipe for abuse. |
