Re: moral dilemma. overchanged, return it?
Do you care about the cashier getting nailed for stealing $10 from the register?
I've gone back to a bakery on future days and had them charge me for stuff that they forgot to charge me for on previous trips (or, I ate something while waiting in line and forgot to tell the cashier to charge me, then realized it later and made it up on the next trip). Not to brag, just to give alternate examples of how to deal with something. Take the money back and let the manager know which cashier was involved (not to punish, but to train and hopefully make up for any grief that the cashier got for being short) |

Re: moral dilemma. overchanged, return it?
[ QUOTE ]
I wouldn't, to be honest with you. Assuming the cashier is otherwise honest and competent, a ten dollar difference in their drawer as a one time thing is not that big of a big deal and will likely be shrugged off by the company, so pocketing the ten dollars won't do them any damage. [/ QUOTE ] Have you ever managed retail? And you're an idiot for using that as your justification for stealing $10 |

Re: moral dilemma. overchanged, return it?
id give it back and wouldnt think about it.
reading the bar thread reminded me about the time i was in college and poor and looked the part. i was in a bar and bought a beer at the bar and walked through the crowd a bit. a couple minutes later the bartendar i just bought the beer from came fighting his way through the crowd. he handed me a ten dollar bill and asked if i meant to tip him that much for one beer. was pretty nice of him and totally unexpected. i think nearly every bartendar would have accepted w/out ever asking. |

I don't believe in karma, but I do believe in being a moral, honest person. Return the money.

Re: moral dilemma. overchanged, return it?
[ QUOTE ]
Do you care about the cashier getting nailed for stealing $10 from the register? [/ QUOTE ] This isn't what happens. They chalk it up as oops and keep a record of whose register it was and the amount. Then if it happens once or twice more they might get fired. And to be fair, if they're routinely [censored] up, they should be. If I realize the mistake in the store or right outside I give it back. If I make it more than a minute away or home or whatever, I keep it. I figure if I'm too lazy to double back when Wendy's [censored] me out of half my order, I'm not gonna go out of my way to make them right. I definitely end up on the short end of the stick in situations like this more often. All that being said, the more money it is, the more likely I am to give it back. |

Do you care about the cashier getting nailed for stealing $10 from the register? [/ QUOTE ] It's the cashier's fault. He should be reprimanded/punished/fired for it. I'd give the money back without thinking twice. |

It's the cashier's fault. He should be reprimanded/punished/fired for it. [/ QUOTE ] Harsh. How about trained/reminded/warned about it instead? |
