Funny thing is, if the kid didnt try to take advantage of a seemily unfortunate situation for the old guy, hed still have his stack.

If my opponent said something like that, I would tell him im not callnig becuase he didnt understand the board and to just give me the pot amount at the end of the game since I can beat 22. Then his plan would be ruined and he would be forced to give me the pot or say nono, the bet stands which would lead everyone to realise what hes doing. Greed is good, except when it runs into bigger, smarter greed.

That's the essence of the short con.

Actually, I doubt he made it up. The full quote: "You mess with the best, you die like the rest." A friend of mine used to wear a t-shirt with that slogan on it and a skeleton smashing a disco ball w a guitar (representing rock and roll killing disco).

Wasn't so much whether he made it up or not. Something about the timing - the smooth con followed by the corny one-liner at the moment when there's absolutely nothing the kid can say back.

Yeah right. I don't believe you at all. Psychology works in mysterious ways and if he's a good enough actor, you wouldn't even consider that he's pulling a move.

I think ahnuld is saying that in this situation he would be a gentleman about it and wouldn't take advantage of the guys "joking" all-in bet, whether he thought the guy was angle-shooting or not.

I love it... serves the ass-hole right.

I had a guy at my 2/5 table a couple weeks ago that claimed someone placed their chips in front of their cards, which constituted a bet of all the chips in his hand (even though he clearly was not intending to bet). The floor ruled he was correct, so the bet stood. The ass-hole then says, all-in... Turns out he got called and was bluffing. Another time when the "rule stickler" got burned... gota love it.
