woohoo...within a few weeks, I'll have passed the 10-yr mark from my first online deposit and I'll be in the black woohoo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! [/ QUOTE ] I think I am at like 14 months.... Oh well. Don't think I can end up in the red though. I already spent enough so if I busto I'm in the black. Now just to make it another 106 months... |

Re: Percentage of bettors that win.
you claimed that you can hit 60%+ w/ no probs at all
why do you have any difficulty believing there are consistent winners out there? i assume at 60%+ long term hit rate, it's pretty impossible to have a losing year... |

Re: Percentage of bettors that win.
i know the 5% number is thrown around a lot, but i truly believe that those who have a really, really good understanding of bankroll management have a much better chance of being long-term winners...
i've had a ridiculously bad month, and if i was prone to chasing, my bankroll would probably be gone... now, have i bet 2-3 units on games i probably have only should have bet 1 this month? surely.. but then i only have friends to use as reference points, and they'd be broke with the run i've been on. me? i'm depressed, bamboozled, and still probably overrolled for my normal 1 unit plays...extremely conservative bettors HAVE to have a higher than 5% rate of winners... |

Conservative and good aren't the same thing.

Re: Percentage of bettors that win.
I would say 5% of everyone betting *today* is a winning bettor, but take that population still gambling 10 years from now and I bet it is around 40-50%.

Seems like a crystal clear case of survivorship bias.

[/ QUOTE ] I have heard the 5% number and read it on some websites - just sounds like a low number. Thats what is hard to believe. I'd rather not bring up my record anymore - as it brings trouble. However, I did learn a great deal from members on this board about winning percentages etc - which was very helpful. |

[/ QUOTE ] I think your really underestimating the amount of people who bet year in and year out and lose every year. I have multiple relatives who have bet very small time on sports have have never had a winning season since I knew what a bet was. It's definitly over 5% that do it for 10 years, but I think well under 50%. I'll guess 25%. |
