if the avg 2p2 had any idea how much extra $ they have in their bank account thanks to ESPN's softcore presentation to appeal to the casual poker player, there'd be a lot less bellyaching round these parts.

Yes. ESPN is conducting a gigantic level on our behalf. Deal with it.

Oh, and ESPN is Disney. I'm sure that matters somewhere in the production department.

PS First post!

ESPN is the redheaded stepchild of Disney.

But it's a very succesful redheaded steapchild! Don't remind ABC about that unless you want them to squirm.

all i've read here is that espn does not teach drunk hilbillys watching poker on espn finer aspects of tournament poker, only a few things, basically how to go all in and check the nuts last to act on the river.

sounds like a good way to keep creating new fish

Here's the link to the original article that Chad was quoted from. Much more interesting and insightful than the whiny blog post OP quoted from verbatim.

OP wrote whiny blog post.

[/ QUOTE ]I'm an example of this, I was a huge fish when I started because I thought the WPT was how poker is played.
"Gus has picked up a REAL hand this time Mike, KJ sooted."
Now when I hear this I chuckle and remember to thank God for VVP in my prayers.

I used to be on the OP's side, but Norman Chad (as much as I despise him) is right.

Over 90% of poker viewers don't care about the intricacies of the game, which is good for the rest of us.

It's kind of sad too because all I ever wanted to see was Bart Hanson and Dave Tuchman doing ESPN coverage, but I don't know if that would ever happen.

Interesting how ESPN thinks it will attract more viewers by actually employing commentators who are uneducated on the subject matter. Think about if they did that for any other sport.

You've clearly never watched the other sports on ESPN then.

agreed sports commentators suck (esp when former athletes).

I think Lon and Norman come off as understanding poker a lot better than the avg MLB announcer understands baseball.

(although it should be noted that the comparison is unfair to the latter, since a baseball announcer has to call the game live, for hours at a time). Nevertheless, yea, most sports announcers blow.
