Re: Gamblers lost $12.7 Billion in FY07 in Nevada
I think with most slots these days a quarter machine plays more like $2.50 or $5. I'm too stupid to figure out how to play them.

The mix in Macau is totally different. Probably it would be something like 90% baccarat, 1% slots, 9% other table games. The gambling atmosphere is much more serious, too. When people win, they get all cocky and stuff, and they may or may not tip dealers out of all proportion to normal (e.g. if they won $500k, they might tip $20k). If they lose, they will get mad, rip up cards, swear at dealers and blow smoke in the dealer's face. [/ QUOTE ] So, it's like being at a poker table then? |

Re: Gamblers lost $12.7 Billion in FY07 in Nevada
[ QUOTE ]
12.74 B/ 17 B = 7.5% house edge. The article says that $8.3 B came from slots and $4.2 B from table games. The house edge for table games is ~2.5%, so the edge on slots must be around 10%. [/ QUOTE ] Don't forget that the majority of people don't use optimal strategy for table games, so the actual house edge is likely somewhat higher (unless the 2.5% figure is already taking that into account, of course). |

[ QUOTE ] God, Nevada must love the taxes this generates. Anyone who has ever driven US 95 up the Colorado River through AZ, CA, and NV may recognize this: the road in California is old, no shoulder, winding, hilly. Then you hit the Nevada border and BANG! Graded, wider, newer, huge shoulders. Gotta be your casino tax dollars at work. That's always been my theory anyway. [/ QUOTE ] Not really; there's no state income tax in Nevada, which makes me wonder how do states with no state income tax have moneys. [/ QUOTE ] High sales tax. 7.75% in Nevada. |

Wow, I always knew that slots were the cash cow of casinos but I didnt realize it was this extreme. [/ QUOTE ] i wish we could get some numbers for how much space each category is allotted. i mean it's well known that slots are by far the highest revenue/sq ft but i'm curious how far ahead it is. when i think about a casino it seems like slots get maybe 1/2 the gambling floor? i dunno, all those table games get a ton of room too. |
