My fiance and I get paid on the 15th & 30th. About 1 week before that, I sit down and pay every bill due between those two dates.

I also have all my bills in Quicken 90 days ahead of time, so I know how my cash flow is.

This is not rocket science, it just involves a little forethought. I spend maybe 2 hours a month paying all our bills and have yet to receive a late fee this year.

My rent check is my only bill that isn't paid automatically every month. I have set every other one up so I don't have to worry about them. Other added bonus: no paper bills ever. I basically get nothing but junk mail these days. I can literally go months without a single piece of important mail.

then i'd have to remember that i'd paid my bills and the money in my account wasn't really mine anymore. i just pay as i get my bills. that way i don't have to do anything odious like budget.
