Edit: I'm also curious what other posters think for the entire spectrum of defending here, especially if you were there. Discussion is goot. [/ QUOTE ] I don't know enough about tournament strategy to know if this is right. I'm assuming he's opening lighter than at a ring game. I would probably defend at least 50% here, and 3 bet at least 10%, not necessarily top 10%, I'd rather 3 bet a hand like JTs and call with A8o if that makes sense. |

Excellent analysis, sir. Inspirational as always. What range are you defending with passively then? [/ QUOTE ] I guess something like A7+, Axs, K9o+, K7s+, QJs, QJo, JTs. Putting it all together: 3-bet high end for value: 99+, AJs+, AJo+, KQs, KQo Call for postflop: A7+, Axs, K9o+, K7s+, QJo. 3-bet low end for deception and to put pressure on villain to fold: 22-88, T9s, 98s, J9s I'm now going to put it all together and hope that it makes sense... Total hands: 310/1326 = 23.4% Pairs = 78 Axs = 48 A7o+ = 84 K7s+ = 24 K9o+ = 48 QJs = 4 QJo = 12 JTs/T9s/J9s = 12 I guess that's not too bad. |

Very comparable ranges. Mine is a little bit more expanded for certain groups, I'll have to reflect on that. I'm interested in the defending ranges of the others who were there before I reveal my magnificent bluff (and I respect their input anyways). You know who you are, am I asking too much? Aaron, what is your rough range % for opening in the CO? I'm assuming it's a tad lighter than at a ring game? I would be defending alot more than 23% if this was a ring game, but I don't know if I should be tighter in a tournament.

I would be defending alot more than 23% if this was a ring game, but I don't know if I should be tighter in a tournament. [/ QUOTE ] In the tournament setting, it's quite loose. The reason is that blinds increase and I don't have time to wait around to pick up a hand. I think a common error for limit cash players when they go to limit tournaments (especially short ones) is that they're too tight to stay ahead of the blinds. In this case, I was looking at raising something like any pair, any ace, any suited king, K6o+, Q8s+, Q9o+, J9s+, J9o+, T9s, T8s, 98s, 97s, 87s. In a ring game, I cut back on the pairs (more like 55+), kings (K7s+, K9o+), and the queens (Q9s+, QTo+), and toss JTo/J9o. |
