Re: Tell me about Seattle
Moved from NE pa to WA and I love it.
It's never as cold as Pa and you do get nice weather. Just ignore the homeless (They make more money than you) If ya got the bucks go have dinner at the top of the space needle the food is AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING. Do the market and catch some fish. I live in tacoma with the scumbag drug dealers, pimps, prostitutes, murderers, illiterates, homeless, good for nothings. I'm afraid to go to the 7-11 at night. I'm currently in Iraq and I feel safer here than in tacoma. I think philadelphia and the bronx are safer than Tacoma. But Seattle and 98 % of the surrounding areas are just AWESOME just don't move to tacoma because you spot a nice housing deal. Someone was prob killed in that house. |

Re: Tell me about Seattle
[ QUOTE ]
Seattle is great - been here almost two years. Only one-two days of snow in the winter, and the rain is heavily overstated; it rains rarely in the summer. Culture, hm. Well, there's lots of Asian people here (especially in the University District). People like to go outside here and play sports, go hiking/biking, running, and so forth. It's a stark difference from the midwest, where people lock themselves inside and drink beer and eat Denny's late at night. Fishing is excellent here - plenty of places to go deep sea fishing or just go out on a boat on the Puget Sound to fish locally. The beaches aren't great, but ones off the Pacific Ocean are about 2 hours away. Definitely check out the Olympic Peninsula if you like the outdoors. As for gambling, there's a lot of local cardrooms near Seattle (Shoreline, specifically, but Renton has a bunch too) that spread almost exclusively limit games due to tribal gaming laws. Parker's in Shoreline is the best, and they have 20/40 running occasionally, but 8/16 is the most common (with 4/8 always going as well). The major casinos are Tulalip (north) and Muckleshoot (south), each about 30-40 minutes from downtown Seattle. They have all the table games you'd want, plus games that are advertised as no-limit but are actually spread limit ($500 bet cap on any street, so $2000 NL is actually $20-500 spread limit with a $2000 max buy-in). Lots of 2+2'ers here, too: stabn, me, Dids, nolanfan, Freakin, Phresh, CaseS87 (or something), Entity, GuyOnTilt, KJS, and others I'm sure that I am forgetting. It's a hell of a lot better than Texas. Ask New001 - he lived in Seattle until he relocated to Tomball, TX. Pretty sure he hates it. [/ QUOTE ] Was gonna talk about how much I love it here but this post sums it all up pretty damned well. |

Re: Tell me about Seattle
As others have indicated, don't knock Capital Hill too much. At the very least, you should hit up the Elysian Brewery at 13th (maybe 12th) and Pike. Their beer is some of the best you'll find anywhere, although I was underwhelmed with their stout. The rest, though, is solid gold.

[/ QUOTE ] Yeah, Capitol Hill is one of the areas full of nightlife. Really, there bars everywhere. Belltown and Pioneer Square are the other choices. Capitol Hill is crackin most nights and it's not all gays... |

Ballard is actually becoming a rather nice place for nightlife, depending on what music scene you're into. Good bars & restaurants as well.

The nightlife there was perfect, TONS of bars w/in walking distance of each other, of all different varieties (trendy, dive, hipster, etc.). If you're homophobic, grow up, and then check out Capitol Hill. I have extensive Elysian experience (it is on 13th). One of my roommates who I lived with for three years had a girlfriend who worked there, and we were there CONSTANTLY. Pretty good beer. I miss Seattle a lot, really want to move back some day. I like Portland, it just doesn't have whatever Seattle has to make me love it. |

I trust their booking agent to the extent I would pay $10 to see anyone they booked, no inquiry or information needed. And the record store next door is possibly the best I've seen. |
