Bah. It's all about peak. Ask Michigan fans how happy they are with their very high average final ranking.

How many teams actually peak? While it does suck ending most seasons in a pit of misery (which isn't hard when anything not national championship induces misery for some short period of time), overall the past decade has been pretty good. 9(?) new years bowl games, three rose bowls, an orange bowl. bowl wins over WSU, alabama, auburn, arkansas, florida. 4-6 vs OSU isn't great but it happens. Complete dominance over penn state and msu. Don't know exact record against notre dame (edit 4-3) but there have been two beat downs of the 38-0 and 48-21 variety.

Definitely beats the four loss years of the mid 90s. On a decage happiness scale of 1-10 I'd give it an 8.5 and if OMG SAM MCGUFFIE commits friday it'll be a 8.6

Michigan is certainly in the top 10. I don't know about #1 though.

No love for my Tigers?

There's no wrong answer among the usual suspects, and the correct answer to this question has included like 8 of the same 10 schools for the past forever. This is kind of a silly idea, when it's done in the NFL or something it can be interesting because there aren't traditional powers.

Substitute Tennessee for Georgia and LSU for Nebraska and I think you've got it.

You have to include all the NC winners before you even consider teams that didn't.

LSU is only the 4th best SEC team over the past 10 years in conference play, but they get ranked higher than UGA because of a title.

If we counted the 96 NC, then UF would be #1 because they would have 2 NCs & a very good win%

I'm looking at conf win%s in my rankings:

1)Texas: 1 NC, #3 win%, very consistent
2)USC: 2 titles but 1 split and #8 win%
3)UF: 1 NC, #4 win% in maybe toughest conf
4)FSU, 1 NC, 1 NC loss, #1 conf win% but weaker conf, not very good once the conference became tougher
5)Miami, 1 NC, 1 NC loss, utter dominance but in weaker conf
6)OSU, 1 NC, 1 NC loss, consistent but weaker conf win%
7)UT, 1 NC, everyone forgets they have a better win% than any SEC team but UF
8)Oklahoma 1 NC
9)LSU 1/2 NC
10)Nebraska

Oh I guess I left out Michigan, they would go 9 pushing LSU to 10 & Nebraska out.

Maybe???

Being a SEC "fanboy", I didn't want to go proclaiming they are with out any actual data. How do the conferences break down over the past decade? Thanks.

I was confident with my Michigan pick but I can see the merits of not even having them in the top 10.

[/ QUOTE ]

There are no merits to not having Michigan in the top 10.

[/ QUOTE ]

Actually it's really close but they have a decent win%/conf% so they deserve to be there especially after last year. I don't think you can rank them near the top though.

Texas has been better overall but only because of the last few years.
