Re: How to Dominate $1 and $2 No Limit Hold\'em
Sam,
I just finished your book, ordered at Amazon on 7/23/07 and received a good copy of the book on 8/01/07. I’m not gonna beat around the bush here, I like it a lot. First off I really appreciate the history of Vegas that is included and think you have interwoven some good stories with an even better howto book on winning at NL Holdem. Personally I like the “WE” that you use. When I read a book like this, the We becomes “You & I”. The book is more exciting because You & I are on an adventure together, you are the teacher and I am the student. As I moved through the book you did a good job of keeping me interested in the material and your style of writing appeals to me. I just want to touch on an earlier message by sincityalpha stating, “Besides bolder print have they actually proofread the newer version? The one I have is full of most basic mistakes and errors…” That is an extreme exaggeration. This book is 400+ pages and the basic mistakes and errors are very few. And when you called Phil Hellmuth, Tom Hellmuth, I laughed out loud. I didn’t consider that a mistake. Just an example of what proofreading is about, in years gone by I self-published numerous howto books on gambling. As I did each rewrite, I proofed them at the same time and then turned them over to my highly intelligent brother-in-law. He always found errors that I missed. Mistakes are a distraction but overall, a small one. So, I think you did a fine job for a 400-page book and actually, my howto books were 100 page booklets and still had errors. This book appealed to me because of the title, HOW TO DOMINATE…. I am a tight/passive player most of the time and although I am a winner I really need to step up my game to become more aggressive and hopefully a bigger winner.. Your book does a good job in that department. I like the way you pound it in to my head every discussion so that I don’t forget what has come before. I think some might think it is overdone but I didn’t mind it. I would highly recommend your book, especially for beginners, to step up their game. On a personal note, I am in my 60’s and spent a lot of time in Vegas around the time you are talking about. I remember very fondly all the things you talked about, especially being able to drive the length of the strip without having to stop for a traffic light. The Casinos were less crowded and a blackjack counter like myself could still get single deck games and do pretty good without much of a hassle; (thank you Prof. Thorp.) I remember fondly my father talking to me about how great it was in his younger days saying, “Man them were the days.” Now, I am my father. Good luck to you in the future Sam, Rick |

I would highly recommend your book, especially for beginners, to step up their game. [/ QUOTE ] Thank you, upstaterick, for your kind words. I'm happy when I hear from someone who appreciates the old stories. I tried to introduce as many characters to the book as I could because, after all, it is about playing the people. Thx again. Sam |
