I never really understood this in blackjack, aren't there some cases where you're "meant to" bet in between the minimum and the maximum? Other than to decrease ror or avoid being caught I don't see why, but I understand it's true.

well, it's all based on bankroll considerations. to maximize bankroll growth for any given bankroll size, the amount you should bet on each hand is a function of how big your edge is. but any time you have a positive expectation, you would obviously choose to bet more any time you could afford it.
