No. The "secret" has been out for quite some time that the book is a load of crap; doesn't seem like a very appealing premise for a movie...

I honestly think you guys are underestimating Hanks.

He'll nail this role. Just watch.

Sure he will, but no way this movie outgrosses Titanic for the above reasons.

Although, Ron Howard is directing, right?

Still. Nah.

Tom hanks is also a horrible choice for the role.

What the hell is the matter with you people?

When has Tom Hanks ever been bad at anything? He's this generation's Spencer Tracy--you can plug him into any role, and he'll be great.

Who would you rather see in the part? I was going to mention Russell Crowe sarcastically, but unfortunately, someone has already mentioned him earnestly. That would be great, if Robert Langdon decides to stand and fight every time a bad guy comes at him. But Robert Langdon runs and hides! You want Russell Crowe for THAT? I think he's a fine actor, for some roles. But "The Insider" showed us that "wimpy braniac" isn't exactly playing to his strengths.

What other big-name, can-carry-a-film-singlehandedly stars ARE there? Jim Carrey? Will Farrell? Tom Cruise? Colin Whatshisname? Please, it's laughable.

Hanks wins this one in a landslide. "Landslide" doesn't even adequately describe it.

CW,

The reason Titanic made so much money was because 10-16 year old girls went to the theater with their friends and saw it 21 times. Obviously the draw for DVC won't be the same.

I was strictly referring to the folks who think TH won't be good in this movie.

RH is a very good director.

With absolutely no intelligent or wise analysis, NO.

Just common sense really, just because it was an extremely popular book, doesnt mean it will translate to a movie. Teenage girls rocked the Titanic box office, they wont do that for this.

[/ QUOTE ]

Don't get me wrong, I don't think it will overtake it either. I think it will be closer than the forum thinks, approaching $1.2-1.4B Worldwide. I didn't want to make the argument for it either, I thought someone more in the know about the industry might try though.

No.

Hanks is a terrible choice. He also looks awful in preview shots; what the hell have they done with his hair? It won't help the film's chances that the main character is unbelieveably dumb looking (women won't go for it as much as they might otherwise have).

I think David Duchovny's career should have been resurrected for this role (and I'm not by any means a big DD or X-files fan). But for more obvious choices, any of the names mentioned here would have been much better.

tom hanks will be good in the movie, the movie will be well directed. who knows if the movie will be good. it won't surpass titanic, it won't even get half the box office sales. fair? i think it is.
