guys, choices like Jude Law, Ben Affleck, Sean Connery, and Harrison Ford are NOT inexplicable. They're all good looking with a bit of charm and/or personality. You might not like them or think they're no good, but they are still obvious leading men.

Richard Dreyfuss and Chris O'Donnel are good choices, though. Even though I love Dreyfuss.

There is no way Jude Law and Ben Affleck are "obvious" leading men. Affleck spends about 90% of his screen time with his mouth hanging open. Dumb-looking does not make someone an "obvious" leading man...and exactly what "charm" does he have?

Jude law looks like he weighs about 110 lb. soaking wet. He has beady little tiny eyes with bags around them and can't seem to figure out how a comb works. Whatever "charm" he posseses is solely due to his accent, and he whines his way through roles. For the life of me, I can't think of a single characteristic that makes him a leading man.

Your post sounds like you're saying anyone good looking with some charm is an "obvious" leading man. We're not talking about porn here, Dom.

apparently, you haven't seen much porn.

Like I said, you may not like them but that doesn't mean they aren't obvious leading man material. Ben Affleck is the poster boy for "wooden leading man." He's this generation's Rod Taylor.

So being really obviously awful as a leading man makes one obvious leading man material? This argument really makes no sense, Dom.

Did you see that movie called I think The Talented Mr. Ripley -- whatever, it had Ripley in the title? Matt Damon, Jude Law, Gwynneth Paltrow.

In the movie, Law was portrayed as wealthy and attractive and basically gifted by the universe. It was a perfect fit. He's a good looking guy. He's not a big bruiser, but lots of leading men haven't been. Heck, in the old days people like Alan Ladd were very common -- 5'6" and under. Even Stallone is about 5'7".

I think Chris O'Donnell is too low key to be a leading man. He makes a good sidekick.

I have been really disappointed in Vince Vaughn's performances. He has the looks (and supposedly the humor), not sure why it isn't working for me.

I am not a fan of Tobey Maguire. This guy doesn't do anything for me at all.

Richard Dreyfuss? I remember liking him in something. Has he made any good movies in the past 10 yrs?

I think he's a really good actor, but then he figured out it was easier and he could make more money spitting out mediocre comedies.

I don't think he has the looks or appeal you guys do. He very rapidly fatted out and started going bald. What else is he going to do besides comedies now? If he played in dramas, he'd be (literally) the heavy.

Yeah, I was thinking about some of his earlier roles (Clay Pigeons, Return to Paradise) but he's definitely not aging well. He's got those big bags under his eyes and doesn't look at all like he takes care of himself.
