He's from Pittsburgh - why not the Pirates? That would be awesome.

Re: Mark Cuban trying to buy Cubs
Any owner that has an actual passion for the sports and is willing to put winning first is good for the game.
How MLB, Stern or anyone else could fail to see that is beyond me. |

[/ QUOTE ] if he routinely criticizes the league publicly, they won't like him. that kind of stuff gets nothing done and i think ownership/commissioners would get tired of it very quickly. cuban tried to buy the pittsburgh penguins and was basically told no. |

Re: Mark Cuban trying to buy Cubs
[ QUOTE ]
The bottom line is that money talks. If Cuban has the cash, the Tribune Company isn't going to say no. Especially if Cuban is willing to pay more than the other interested parties. Has there ever been a situation where the owners group in a professional sport has refused to let someone buy a franchise in that sport? If the Tribune Company decides to sell to Cuban, can MLB really stop it? [/ QUOTE ] The Tribune Company doesn't own the Cubs anymore. Billionaire investor Sam Zell bought the Tribune company and plans to sell it to someone after the season. Article from April 3, 2007 |

[/ QUOTE ] I'm aware of that, however most owners couldn't care less what fans think about them. Plus, most fans would spend the team's money more foolishly than their front offices already do. I understand that pro sports leagues front offices are often clueless - but they don't like being told they're clueless by one of their own. |
