Re: Rude to bring iPod in van full of people?
I don't know about rude, but if you actually went through with this you would definitely be a passive aggressive little bitch. You'd essentially be saying, "I'd rather listen to this song I've heard a dozen times than socialize with these people." Displaying your objection to whatever your gf is making you do this way is kinda sad. Just drive yourself or don't go.
FWIW - joking about doing this doesn't imply douchiness at all. Sort of like dead baby jokes |

Re: Rude to bring iPod in van full of people?
It's definitely rude. I mean, why not just stick your fingers in your ear and yell "lalalalaalalalalalalalala"? Has the prevalence of iPods really made people think this would somehow not be rude?
Note- does not apply to road trips. |

Re: Rude to bring iPod in van full of people?
I should have clarified a few things, but we were running out to the movie and I didn't have much time.
1) I'm not a HP fan, but I've more or less been entertained by the movies. I was the only one who went that hadn't read all (or any, for that matter) of the books. 2) Most importantly, it wasn't a short trip to the cinema. It was an hour long plus ride to the big IMAX multiplex in Indianapolis. We ended up taking a car with 5 of us, as 2 of the party ran late and got there on their own. I think the intimacy of a car makes the iPod pretty awkward. The conversation home wasn't nearly as grating as I expected, though LOL book nerds. You can't fit all of the book into a goddamn movie, get over it. |

Re: Rude to bring iPod in van full of people?
OP,
If I were one of your girlfriend's friends in the car, I would think you're the biggest baby ever and would probably just start laughing at how pathetic you are, since it's obvious you're just wearing the iPod to prove something to your girlfriend. |

Re: Rude to bring iPod in van full of people?
I think OP is underestimating the power of HP. I'm not a HP fan, but its influence is so expansive that even non-geeks will admit to being a HP geek. In fact a friend of mine is organising nearly 20 people to go see the movie! So, I wouldn't be so pessimistic about this bunch of people you will be subject to.

Re: Rude to bring iPod in van full of people?
Doesn't it kind of depend on the length of the trip? If you live 2 hours away from the cinema, I don't think it's at all rude. But if you're only going to be in the van for 15 minutes I would think you were fairly strange if you just put on your earphones and didn't talk to anybody.

Re: Rude to bring iPod in van full of people?
if the ride is long (over an hour) and you don't know the people in the van, whatever. It'd be more rude to your gf than to the other people then.
if you know the people in the van, yea it's rude. But when it comes to a bunch of nerds trying to figure out what will happen in a HP movie and talk about all the past ones...maybe being rude is necessary to avoid killing them all. |
