psu - definitely.

The Northern Lights in northern Alaska wouldn't be a terrible nomination either but you can also see the Northern Lights from a few other countries.

(p.s. - I saw these on a trip to Fairbanks, Alaska once but they ween't very good that night).

I'm sure there are others in the U.S. that would be decent nominations but I can't immediately think of them.

I've been to the Statue of Liberty, Eiffel Tower, and Schloss Neuschwanstein. The castle is (to me, anyway) more impressive than the previous two.

Hoping to make it to the Acropolis, Colosseum, Stonehenge, and the Alhambra when I'm abroad in Paris this fall.

is everyone serious with the statue of liberty?

btw, where are the f*cking pyramids? they were built 500-1000 years BC. It is estimated that the Giza plateau took about 400 years to complete.

Seriously, lol at the statue of liberty.

5 - Stonehenge, Taj, Great Wall, Statue of Liberty, St. Basil's.

Never done Paris/Rome but will, ticking them off soon. Wife has done Petra.

Also, the Kremlin and St. Basil's Cathedral are two seperate buildings, so that's weird. St. Basil's is the small turret which is red/green with tetrahedrons on it, the rest is called the "Palace of the Intercession of the Virgin". the Kremlin is a white building some few hundred yards from the church. Nitty.

Okay, I screwed up. They have to be man-made so obviously Northern Lights and stuff like that is out.

Still thought the Nazca Lines would deserve consideration but then see that they are not 'archetectural structures' which I think is also a requirement.

For comparison (from Wikipedia):
Original 7 Wonders of the world...6 of which no longer exist. All around the Mediterranean rim primarily Greek or Egyptian.

Great Pyramid of Giza
Hanging Gardens of Babylon
Temple of Artemis at Ephesus
Statue of Zeus at Olympia
Mausoleum of Maussollos at Halicarnassus
Colossus of Rhodes
Lighthouse of Alexandria

Seven Wonders of the Middle Ages:

Typically representative of the seven:

* Stonehenge
* Colosseum
* Catacombs of Kom el Shoqafa
* Great Wall of China
* Porcelain Tower of Nanjing
* Hagia Sophia
* Leaning Tower of Pisa

Other sites that have been mentioned include:

* Taj Mahal
* Cairo Citadel
* Ely Cathedral
* Cluny Abbey

Tourist travel wonders

The following list of the top seven tourist travel wonders (not including pilgrimages) was compiled by Hillman Wonders:

* Great Pyramids of Giza
* Great Wall of China
* Taj Mahal
* Serengeti Migration
* Galápagos Islands
* Grand Canyon
* Machu Picchu

Natural wonders

Similar to the other lists of wonders, there is no consensus on a list of seven natural wonders of the world, as there has been debate over how large the list should be. One of the many lists was compiled by CNN:[11]

* Grand Canyon
* Great Barrier Reef
* Harbor of Rio de Janeiro
* Mount Everest
* Polar Aurora
* Parícutin volcano
* Victoria Falls

Also - LOL at Good Morning America compiling their own list of the "New Seven Wonders" in 2006.
They included "The Internet" right in there with the Polar Ice Caps, Mayan Ruins and Grand Canyon.

Whats the criteria for these? I couldn't find anything about that on the website.

For instance, the Statue of Liberty could maybe considered a "wonder of the world" from a cultural point of view. But other than that, its not a particularly impressive statue (in terms of being better than most of the world).

The same could be said of the Eiffel Tower.

[/ QUOTE ]

Based on the list they are being judged primarily on the standards at the time of construction and their cultural impact. If you were looking for the most impressive engineering feats you would end up with the nuclear waste depository at Yucca Mountain and [censored].
