N for NATE AND HAYES

A cool little actioner in the Indiana Jones style, with Tommy Lee Jones and the guy from Caddyshack. Set in the South Seas, this is a whole lot of fun.

Blarg,

I take that "which nobody knows about" as a challenge. I just bought the Criterion DVD that includes both La Jetee and Sans Soleil, so I have two versions of La Jetee on DVD now.

Katy,

Woody Allen's best movie in my not so humble opinion; it's gorgeously photographed and comes with a fabulous Gershwin soundtrack. I watch this one over and over.

The Argento post in BBV4L reminded me of how much I like this movie. This was DA's first (and best) attempt at filming the Phantom of the Opera story. If only the Eli Roths of this world put half as much heart into their films as Argento, I'd be a happy man.

Sweet. I haven't seen it for a very long time. I've never seen anyone not blown away by it, though it's easy to be very skeptical when hearing about it.

I was trying to think of a good J movie, but could only think of La Jetee, which nobody knows about, and figuring I was coming up dry otherwise. I was even thinking especially about French films, so now I feel like a doofus for missing Jules and Jim.

French films and you missed Jean de Florette?

Shame.

This film and its sequel Manon des Sources together make an incredible story. Greed, lust, prejudice, pride, envy, they're all here and more; together the two films make a tragedy of Shakesperian proportions.

I'm glad my gf at the time dragged me to a screening of this at an Atlanta art house back in the day because the cinematography is fantastic. I've seen them run on PBS from time to time since.

Note for 2p2 dramabomb fans: I confirmed with mslif long ago that this was filmed in her own backyard so to speak in the south of France. She was surprised anyone on the board had seen it.
