Dids,

I find the use of the word dig rather groovy myself.

I had run-ins with Nate a while back in Psychology. Personally, I think he can be a whiny bitch. In fact, one time he made multiple posts complaining that I had used bad grammer in one, specific response, when my response in question simply contained a typo.

Sounds like he hasn't changed all that much.

Some mods would probably proof read a book for free.

[/ QUOTE ]

I offered to do this several years ago and Mason assured me that it wasn't necessary.

[/ QUOTE ]

this makes absolutely no sense to me

it's not like we would be charging for it or anything

durron,

I think he said that it wouldn't be necessary because he was going to pay someone who was a professional in the field to do the job.

Personally, I think that twoplustwo has long underestimated how much more professional, sellable, etc their products would be if they had good "look and feel." Books and website both, though David appears to do well with the ladies without a gym membership (jk jk, I'll be here all week).

When I have friends over (and many of them work in publishing) and they look at the books, they are all kind of amused. Obviously the website design lacks in, er, pleasingness.

I know that such things cost money, and that perhaps the overall gain isn't thought to be worth that cost, but with a gagillion members, many of whom are qualified professionals of various types, we have access to free labor that it seems silly to ignore.

See, here's an example of free labor you should ignore:

Hey, if you guys would like, I'll read over and comment on the upcoming STT book for free.

I would perceive it very positively if these two previewed the STT book.

I haven't read the entire Nate thread so I won't comment.

Wow. Then definitely he should be perma-banned; that type of behavior has never been seen here on 2+2 and absolutely shouldn't be tolerated under any circumstances. Allowing such would lead to our ultimate demise.

TT,

Are you a Sniper gimmick account?

[/ QUOTE ]

There's an About the Forums thread concerning this (where, incidentally, an overwhelming number of people support Nate.) and in it Sniper actually takes our side!

People have actually started a grass-roots boycott of 2+2 books until Nate. is reinstated. Crazy, man.

I can see the hesitance to have mods proofread manuscripts... it could lead to a lot of back-and-forth over potential edits, etc. Someone might have a bunch of comments that really just slow things down. I think that, in order to be useful, a proofreader would need to differentiate between clear errors in grammar or word use and more general, subjective issues. The latter are probably not seen as urgent. On the plus side, if a reader who is informed about poker strategy and game theory DOES suggest the latter type of edit, it is more likely that the potential changes would keep the intended meaning and context of the original intact.

So, basically, just cause it's free doesn't mean it would help. If it adds more headache and costly rewriting to the process, it's not useful.

I think some people could still help.

I think it should be also a little reward for the mods to read the books and, if nothing more, offer opinions on the quality of the advice, etc. Im sure the STT book will be great, but have have been that much better if say durron or cit got their hands on it and offered a few suggestions
