Re: Dekstop Specs
PCMservice is what i meant, uncheck it. Ok, this is starting to look better. Now you can start fixing stuff using HijackThis.
Lets start with the O4 - Global Startup objects. You can remove all of those except the "brother" entry. The google web accelerator is worthless. Efax doesnt need to run when you boot. VTrebooter is malware. Check all of these and click "fix selected" in Hijackthis. You should also uncheck block-checker.exe in the msconfig startup tab. Uninstall grokster from your system. It is malware. After you do all of this. Install Ad Aware and run a full system scan. When you're finished with that. Repost a new HJT log. |

Re: Dekstop Specs
Go to add/remove programs. Uninstall Aol Toolbar and Need2findbar.
VTagentreboot.exe is still in the global startup directory. Do this please. Go to Start > programs > startup > tell me what is in this folder. Have you defragged yet? |

Re: Dekstop Specs
Start with movies and music. You probably have a bunch of crapware programs too. How big is your HD?
check VTagentreboot.exe in HJT and fix it. |

Re: Dekstop Specs
Thanks all, especially funkyworm for your help. I decided to stick with this computer for now. It's already running faster (and I still haven't defragged). I'm going to buy an external HD so I can keep all my data and have enough room to defrag. Today I bought some compressed air and cleaned out the box and it's running much quieter now. The can worked great at first but it's lost some power (there's still plenty of liquid inside) and the can is ice cold. I'll let it sit for a day and then try it again.
