I'm going to agree with NT. You are probably not welcome because you are acting like Mr. Serious Hardcore Poker Man while winning the money. Next time, get really plastered (and I mean totally [censored] obliterated) and then play. This will make things fair and more fun.

[/ QUOTE ] N(i)T is far from right and failed to make any positive contribution to this thread.
When I first started playing I used to lose everytime I played, I had no idea how to play poker. I would come home and want to never play again because I could never win. So instead of quitting I chose to get better which is what I assume most people come to these forums for. I bought books spent hours studying hand histories and reading these forums. What I'm saying is that I put in work and it has paid off. I'm not acting like mr poker man, especially in front of these guys. I drink at every game and make general conversation, there is always a relaxed atmosphere at this game. Some of you should check out the link to the Frank Wallace book on poker to get a good mindset of a real player.

Your mindset is that you want to maximize profit. You have to realize that getting kicked out of the game definitely minimizes your profit, so you have to do what you must to avoid that.

Buy the whole group pizzas and beer, or get a stripper or something. Or hire that topless dealer that someone had a year or so ago. Let the guys feel like they are getting something out of your winnings. I think this will keep your seat secure for quite a while.

You have to concede that maximizing your profit in this game means staying in it, and staying in it means giving some back.

I almost shouldn't respond to this but for learning purposes I will. People play $10 tourneys for fun not $500 buy in cash games. These guys play 3 days a week with usually 4-5k in the game. There are a lot of things you can do for fun but poker is not one of them. Going on boat rides is fun or hanging out with your friends thats fun. At the poker table you're either playing just to win or you're playing to win money. Fun just happens to be part of the winning, even if its just winning 1 hand.

[/ QUOTE ]

This attitude is probably why you are not welcome. In my experiences with people, I have found that people like you don't realise it though, even when multiple other people point it out. All the best

Cheers

[/ QUOTE ] Ask any pro how much fun poker is. I'm not a pro, but the more serious you take something the more you want to see good results. I am just being honest in saying that I play to win. If you are playing any type of cash game on a regular basis there should be some desire to win. Hell, if you play anything including videogames, kickball, or tiddly winks there is at least some desire to win or beat the game. If you lack that desire then don't expect to win, but I do. Remember, its always a bit more 'fun' when you win.

Eh, sure, and I agree that winning is fun, but when playing tiddly winks, I'd prefer an evenly matched exciting game than a slaughter in the 'W' column. I have a friend with whom I used to play a fair amount of video basketball. We were failry evenly matched (he had a slight edge for a long time, tho'), and the both of us had a lot more fun when it was a good solid fast-paced high-energy going-into-overtime game, regardless of the outcome.

If the way you converse with people in this game is anything like the way you interact on here, no wonder they want to kick you out.

I love that you say this on 2+2 like people here don't know that winning money is fun, or that you should be playing to win. Uh yeah, here's some news for you: practically everyone on this board can beat their home game, because the people you play against aren't very good.

Here are some things I expect OP does at his game:

1. Listens to an ipod.
2. Stares down newbies.
3. Analyzes his his play out loud.
4. Acts like a dick.
5. Thinks he is better than people just because he cares about poker more.
6. Talks about "his game".
i could go on

People are probably right. You more than likely just seem as though you are too serious. I have a friend I used to play with a lot, and I don't really like to play with him anymore. When playing with him it is so serious that he actually manages to sap the fun from the game. You don't have to play loose to not seem like a stiff bastard. Just joke with people and get rid of the constant scowl you probably have when playing. Poker with friends is meant to be both fun and profitable, clearly your friends just don't have fun playing with you. Change your demeanor or don't play. Seems reasonable to me.
