guess i'm in the minority, but i don't think u have much of a beef. OK, so u cashed for a big score, congrats. they gave u a check that bounced; their bad, and looks like they apologized profusely to u and offered to cover the 'bounce fee' (as they very well should). So what's left: a) the inconvenience for you of having your acct frozen b) missing interest on 10 days of a 269K balance. meh, i'm not saying those aren't a PITA, but like another poster said, it might not be worth ur time to go after them when the best u might hope for is 1 free night at one of their hotels. try writing a letter. i've ALWAYS had more success writing letters than complaining in person. [/ QUOTE ] This is not a dry cleaner, this is Vegas, where good will and butt kissing go hand in hand so to speak. If this had happened at the Wynn or Venetian, there would probably be a host or manager on his knees puckered up right now. Think about it - you're in the gambling business and a known gambler with a quarter million dollars is unhappy and has dozens of other properties to choose from to get happy again. All that said, Harrah's probably won't do anything beyond the minimum for the OP. <sigh> I miss pre-corporate Vegas. |

There isnt much of a legal beef here, but it is pretty astonishing that they arent working harder to remedy the potential public relations mess. Maybe you need to don a "My $250K Harrah's chack bounced ... ask me about it" t-shirt and go visit the supervisor again. |

Hmm ... Moral of the story here gang, if you win a big amount of money from the WSOP events, do NOT take a check, because it WILL bounce!
P.S. If I was the OP and I'd been treated the way he was, I'd be writing letters to Harrah's HQ and putting a CC letter on there where I was at the same time, issuing press releases to the media about what happened (they eat up stuff like this), as I'm sure Harrahs would be mortified if that happened. |

His winning 250K in a poker tournament does not translate into points on his Total Rewards card. I know so many of you get complexes because poker players are not treated like other gamblers in a casino but is the OP a true player who Harrah's can expect to dump some of his money (by some I mean six figures) back into their coffers? If he is a platinum card holder then yeah, they need to step up. But if not then treat it for what it is -- a f'ed up snafu but nothing more than that. Unfortunately, that is Vegas today. Not just Harrah's but all of the corporations. |

To answer the question a few have asked, i'm not a big player in the pit. I play some occasional craps--i'll buy in for maybe $500 to $1000--but I play less and less these days. Craps just isn't as much fun anymore when you're gambling for a living. I don't have any TJ Cloutier in me, lol.
I'm just a regular gold card guy. I get free room offers at the Harrah's properties in AC for weeknights only. In Vegas they give me nothing. |

I think this one of those cases where the threat is greater than the execution.
My line would be along this path.... You know it’s bad enough I’m eating a bounced check fee and I’ve lost at least $320 in interest. But buddy, you got my account froze and it’s going to take weeks before I can straight out the issues with the mortgage not getting paid, online bills bouncing etc. Look, I’m going to be picking up the phone for the next week or two…. oh man…. “Oh Lucy! - You Gotta Lotta 'Splainin To Do”, not fun….. Dude look I’m not a vindictive person and I surely don’t want to pursue punitive damages, I just want to make it even and call it a day. How about you see if they can comp me for a 4 night stay with a few meals tossed in, and I’d even been willing to sign a wavier releasing you “guys” from all potentials damages. With my additional action here you guys will be away ahead, it’s a win – win right? If they came back and offered me 3 days and a few meals I'd shake his hand and move on.... |
